I fitted a set of Tiguan wheels. Here is a set of brand new wheels and tyres on ebay. All you have to do is machine the centre (cost me $100). The only problem is that you cannot upgrade the brakes, unlike with Mefro wheels. Are upgraded 14" wheels any cheaper than Mefros?

Hey guys,

I am very interested in these Tiguan rims on Ebay but I don't need them right away so if someone else wants them let me know and I wont bid against you.  If no one else is going to buy them though I may just grab them,

Neil.
Hi Scott, as far as I can see there is no marking on the rim that shows max weight. I just went by the gvm of the Tig which is 2200kg. The Syncro is 2500kg. I base my next comment on no technical basis (and am ready to be shot down by engineers and purists alike). The rims are quite heavy and "feel" to be very strong. My thinking is the gvm is close and the Tig has some offroad intent so there should be a 300kg margin built in. Also I hope mine doesn't ever weigh over 2.2t!!! Greg E

Greg,

They look great - I am surprised how good they look on a syncro - very nice.

Great choice.

I know my Mk4 Golf factory alloy wheels have a load rating of 650kgs each - what do these ones rate at? It should be cast into the wheel.

Cheers,

Hi Greg, photos attached. No need for spacers or longer studs. The offset of standard 14" rims is et30, 16" genuine were et34. These are et33. As far as clearance goes with these rims that is mostly a conversation about tyre size. I have 225/70/16 which is the biggest possible without spacing. I would not recommed going that big, 215/70/16 or smaller. If you do get a set I would be up for splitting another set to get a spare, let me know. Greg E

Hi Greg
I am interested in Tiguan wheels also. Do you have a photo of your van with these rims on it. Also are there any other probs with clearance, offset (not even sure what offset means)? Greg

Greg,

My Golf wheels (at 650kg load each) will therefore be allowing for a load of 2,600kgs - the Golf is heavy but I think they have overestimated the load requirements for this small vehicle.

I would say your Tiguan wheels would be at least the load capacity of the Golf factory alloys plus more.

I would not be at all concerned with bashing around in the bush with your syncro wearing them as its shoes.

Cheers,

Skot

I agree Scott. Working in dealerships for the last 22 years I have seen some punished alloy rims. The thought that the weight of the syncro or offroading could smash a rim is laughable to me. Do you know the load rating on your syncro rims? Greg E
