Hi All,
Still keen for this trip, I should be able to do Friday to Sunday. Just wanted to check track conditions. My van has difflocks and an aggressive vc now, but no factory front bash plate and could do with some custom rock sliders due to a low hanging water tank. Homemade front bash plate still a while off. Are there any serious water crossing involved, or just 5 little? creeks as mentioned in the 4wd action article?
Cheers, Sam

Maybe we can do another in say September/ October when it may warm up a bit.
I would suggest that someone brings a chainsaw to cut a path through fallen trees if those tracks are anything like what happened in Sydney and Wollongong.
Here are a few photos of a trip Paul and I did in 2013 on the Queens Birthday weekend to wet your syncro fun taste buds:

Evening all.
More information for those interested in coming along next weekend to the Blue Mountains.
The proposed trip spans Friday to Monday. Obviously those who want to come for less time are welcome to come and meet us wherever or finish up early. The provisional plan is as follows:
- Meet Friday 15th May, 10am at Hartley visitor centre (http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/hartley-historic-site/hartley-historic-site-visitor-centre/tourist-information)- Jenolan Caves (49km)- Kanangra Walls (30km)- Dingo Dell campsite (25km) - camp Friday night? (http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/nationalparks/parkCamping.aspx?id=N0016)- Yerrandarie (75km) - camp Saturday night? (http://www.oberonaustralia.com.au/visitor-information/area-information/yerranderie-regional-park/)- Wombeyan Caves / Taralga
From Yerrandarie on Sunday route still to be finalised however suspect the group may split up due to Monday commitments. This can be discussed en-route.
The long range weather forecast is looking good at this stage. It will be cold at night but nothing a good fire can't fix. Will check track conditions mid next week.
Can those who want to come please update the original spreadsheet with your contact details:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12qQbDAtXDSpfXindEHnAYu2Dl3jIFqwInTY1HsVVXqk/edit?usp=sharing
If you intend to meet elsewhere, let me know otherwise we will expect to meet in Hartley in the Friday.
Looking forward to it.
Jon.

We are sorry, but we will not be able to be there.
Val has been recovering from the flue, and we don't think it wise to be spending nights in the mountains.
We were really looking forward to joining the tour.
This was to be our second time on this route, this time in the opposite direction.
It's a great trip, so hope all that can go enjoy the weekend.
Peter
thanks

Sorry I won't be able to make it either - flu.
I was unable to check out the tracks last Monday due to inclement weather (the steep grades are pretty hairy in the wet) - had enough trouble getting home on the main (dirt) road which was an adventure in itself.
I checked with the ranger at Wombeyan caves and the road from there to Mittagong is closed.
Limeburners Track is locked off, although there is still access to Wombeyan from Yerranderie via the Range track.
There have been gale-force winds and snow on the southern tablelands today, so I suggest you take a chainsaw to clear fallen trees.
Might be better to leave it till Spring.
Cheers, Roger.

I would suggest a late October/ early November trip as the Blue Mountains is notoriously cold till at least then.
Great call to postpone as it was nasty cold in 2013 when Paul and I did the trip and it seems the middle of winter has arrived very early this year.
Plus with that recent 1 in 100 year storm event trees are down everywhere and the bush tracks will be very low priority to clear - probably only 4wders that clear them.
Nationals are next weekend and Old Bar is on in October - 2 fun VW's and VW/camping events to attend.
See you all there!
Cheers,
Skot
Jon,
Thank you so very much for all your efforts in putting this trip together. We are also sad that it isn't going to happen. Love to suggest an alternative route, but we're newbies too unfortunately. Will plan to come when the trip does happen in the spring.
We've shipped off our dogs for the weekend, so if anyone wants to suggest another trip somewhere North or South of Sydney, I'd love to hear it as we'll drive somewhere on Friday :)
Thanks again and looking forward to meeting you all,Det & Lucy

Hi All,
I spoke with the Parks office in Oberon and Blackheath today. They confirmed the following:
- snow forecast for tonight easing toward the weekend (warmer)- the Kowmung River is very high after the rains a few weeks back and is most likely impassible- high winds over the last few days means tracks likely littered with trees and not all have yet been cleared
The high river is the main issue for me as it means we cannot complete the round trip. I don't know the area that well to offer an alternative. Having just looked on the maps, other tracks are likely less used and suspect more prone to fallen trees. It is hard to tell from the maps which are currently open as well (there seems to have been a crackdown by the authorities recently closing tracks).
My gut feeling is to postpone this route until October time when the conditions are going to be more favourable. Which is a shame as I do have a pass out organised for the weekend with the family shipped off to the outlaws. If anyone wants to suggest another route which would be easier given the conditions, I am all ears. Otherwise I will probably go mountain biking in the Southern Highlands instead.
Cheers.
Jon.

El Nino should dry the mountains out by then and better temperatures.
We are overseas for most of September, but should be able to do late October or November.
We would also like to thank you for your work on this run too Jon.

I am quite time poor at the minute so if anyone would like to help organise let me know. Phill suggested a route but still unsure what peoples thoughts are in terms of number of days and distance travel. If you have any preferences then let me know other I will assume 3 days, either Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday. Personally I will struggle with longer but happy to accommodate others.
