bURNINGVAN 2011 Pics (aerial shots too)

Hello Folks,

I'm still soliciting photo contributions for this year's bURNINGVAN. As you can see, I only got a few pics because I was simply too busy socializing. My co-non-organizer Mike Miller didn't bring a camera. He did bring the all important VW case. Anyway, here's a few pics. Please pmail me to claim your van so I can properly caption. Send me pics of the non-event if you are willing to share.

I haven't been able to reach the owner of these pics. I just know 'Kap' really 'captured' the moment with his aerial shots.

Ben - great shots and that was some (magnesium) fire! It's amazing what you guys can pull together without even having an event or an organis(z)er!

We heard magnesium fires were exactly encouraged. It's just we were afraid the fog would roll in and keep ships from spotting San Francisco. We were simply performing our civic duty.;-)

Great photos Ben T.

You had a great turnout by the look of it and the Burning part of burning van looks like fun.

I heard an interesting story about a bloke who owned a VW repair shop (cant remember where now) and he decided to have a bonfire as part of his end of year celebration. After a while the fire started to die down so he told the apprentice to throw on an old dead magnesium engine case. He forgot to tell the apprentice to stand back a bit further and bang.

Lets just say there were no skin burns just a loss of eyebrows etc.

Magnesium definitely burns well and very brightly.

Skot,

The apprentice would have had about ten minutes to stand clear. That's about how long it took to start the case. No traces of the head studs could be found after the bonfire.

The apprentice did have time but he was a bit deaf or too drunk to hear the words "move back".

I think his eye sight was a bit poor for a few days too.
