CTP Greenslips

Hello all,
Rego time again for me and as I was comparing greenslips I noticed that over the past 3 years I have been slogged an extra $100 dollars each year, as the RTA classes my Syncro with 5 seats and windows as a panel van. This makes my passenger vehicle a light commercial vehicle.
I am trying to get this resolved, waiting for someone to call me back tommorow.
My question to the group is,am I the only one with this problem?
I know the compliance plate says seats two,but its had rear seats and windows since it was sold.
What are others catergorised as,Volkswagen Panelvan or Station wagon or light vehicle or mini bus??
Help!! What is it that I drive!
BenC
Ben,

Mine is classed as a TRAN88C with a shape referred to as FCV forward control vehicle by the RTA and NRMA classes it as a 1988 Volkswagen Mibus (mini bus). My last green slip was $377.30.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Skot

Skot, thanks.Hopefully this is the info I need.
What is TRAN88C?Is that vehicle on your green slip?
My greenslip is $593(NRMA)!!!
I can see this leading to hours on the phone and trying to explain to the RTA that it is a 1990 FCV and the NRMA that it is a minibus.
Out of interest, how much was your last Rego fee?

Ben,

I assumed the TRAN part meant transporter and then the year (88) then C meaning Caravelle?

My last NSW rego was $446.00.

There goes another $800 I could have spent on the new donk.

The new brakes sound great - love to see them fitted - I always worried about big brake packaes and whether they would fit inside my alloy wheels. Hope yours fit.

Cheers,

Skot

Ben,

The TRAN88C is on the rego papers from the RTA.

The rego is based on the weight of the vehicle plus a standard fee - yours has probably never been re-weighed from new. Mine was blue slipped with the scooby donk and you need to re-weigh the vehicle.

If you do the engineer thing you will also need to blue slip the vehicle and put it over the weigh bridge. VW obviously grossly underestimated or under quoted the weight of these vehicles and hence the lower cost.

Good luck trying to figure them out.

Cheers,

Skot

Ben, your van is classed as a goods vehicle, which attracts a higher premium for CTP. If it was a passenger vehicle, Caravelle (small bus) or motorhome, it would be much cheaper.

I enquired into changing mine many years ago but found it impossible. Once it is in the system it cannot be changed.

Phill,it looks like I may have convinced the NRMA.I am speaking with a superior again today. They look like changing my Bus to a minibus on the greenslip.I now that I would be wasting my time with the RTA,my rego isnt that bad(fee)anyway.
Let you know how I go.

Yes, I am talking about CTP. If the RTA list it as a PVW, it needs to be insured as a goods vehicle. I have spent many hours arguing with this. If you have a registered Holden, you cannot have CTP for a Ford. When the RTA get the greenslip, they will pick it up that it does not match and contact you.

But its worth a try with the green-slip.

Ben when you have your syncro re-weighed take the spare tyre out and anything loose including baby seats etc. These syncros fully kitted as a Trakka camper weigh around 2.3 T. Mine was weighed in around 1.8T.

Yours must be very low.

Cheers,

Skot

Ben,  can’t tell what the heck they classify mine but I got 2 renewals this week . The green slip for the Tristar with  QBE is $ 285.— insurer code 36 and the rego is $ 447.—

The Trakka is Green slip with NRMA $ 529.07 (!) and the rego $ 537.—(!) insurer code 34

Don’t know what to think or do............. Hart

Hello all,
Rego time again for me and as I was comparing greenslips I noticed that over the past 3 years I have been slogged an extra $100 dollars each year, as the RTA classes my Syncro with 5 seats and windows as a panel van.

As usual Phill, you are correct. After more hours today, arguing, I have now paid for my PV come minibus. What I have to do is get a blue slip and change what is on the rego papers. Will do this for next years rego.

Mine weight in at 1800 too , I took all out , no water (almost) no fuel, no rear seat, no fridge, no 2nd battery, no spare wheel, tools etc.  It is P PRIV,  TRAN 89E PVF     $ 537.--  btw 4 seats.

The Tristar weighs  1720  (with everything in it)  it is P PRIV  (nothing under MODEL ) (nothing under seats)  shape TTF    and it is  $ 447.—

Cheers,

Hart,

I think you need to take what you get unless you get a blue slip engineered review. When I change my engine again, I will have the syncro re-engineered to include both the camper conversion and the motor and have the syncro complianced as a motor home where you can get cheaper insurance and rego apparently.

Our RTA are a very strange lot their categories often don't match the vehicle in any way.

Cheers,

I am insured with the RACV, who calls my Syncro with full Trakka conversion a “motorized caravan”!!!!!!!!!

I tried that and was told that it could not be changed as that VIN was allocated to that body type. I then asked if I could hand the plates in and start again. I was told that it may work but probably not and I could be wasting my money.

This was more than ten years ago but I doubt if the RTA a***holes are any more helpful now.

Did I tell you the driveway story?

I HATE THE RTA!!!!!!!

Dont get him started on the driveway!
I tried just to get a comparison on line and could not even select year model 1990,with minibus. The onlyway I could select the year model 1990 Volkswagon Transporter was to select PVW as body shape. The mini bus option was 92 on.
I looked at my mates 95 import with South African compliance plates today. It has a private import plate that says his is 95 VW Microbus.
