Gary,
Very interested in seeing it at the DOTVW.Thanks for the opportunity. Believe it has the advantage of still working even if the engine isn't, therefore watch out if its a hot day  as I may spend the whole time sitting in your van.
Cheers
Roger

If anyone is interested I have gone nuts and bought a 12v swamp cooler/
air con from the US

Specifically this one (Mk4):

http://www.swampy. net/mk3.html

It should arrive just in time for the DOVW with a bit of luck so if
anyone wants to try it out they will be most welcome.

Not cheap but if it keeps the kids cool on long journeys it will be
money well spent.

The US postal service has dramatically increased their prices
apparently so buying stuff from Gowesty etc is now really expensive.
$350 just in shipping for a set of 4 springs.

Cheers

Hi Ken, got the measuring tape out tonight and i have 77cm front and rear, that is measured off the ground to the bottom edge of the wheel arches. Weirdly the driver's side front is actually 78cm but it could be just the way it is parked.

I'm surprised I don't have a lean as my van has a camper conversion with most of the cupboards, fridge etc on the driver's side.

This is with 14" wheels on, the 15s ought to take it up a couple of cm.

Greg re shocks, I couldn't unbolt the rear shock but my bilsteins are 52cm when sitting level, the wheel drops a lot when i jack it up so i'd say yours sound a bit short. Could they be 2wd ones?

However mine still bang. I'll try and jack it and measure over the weekend.

Cheers
Gary

Not sure Ken, wouldn't surprise me with GW, their prices are a bit out of this world at the best of times. I also got costs on springs from syncro.org and he was bemoaning the postal costs. $460 for a set of springs and shocks!

Either way, not sure what to do now. I think i will have to try and find a more local solution like stretching. It is only the fronts that are a bit soft, the rears are fine. At least i can get the OME shocks here even if i have to wait.

Hi Roger, hopefully it will be a bit more impressive than that esky fan effort i have gathering dust in the loft!

Yes, in theory it can run off the house battery or even one of those starter batteries for 8 hrs or more. To have have chilled air you need ice though.

All will be revealed!

Gary,

Well looks like we are running pretty much neck and neck on the height stakes, the weight of the camper over 18 years is settling the springs ... thats for sure.

Everytime this topic comes up I say to myself I should look into recovering some of the lost height. Then I remember I can't do a thing, or else it won't squeeze in under the garage door. And there is no way I can mod the height of the door.

End of story, case of be content with what I have .... could be a lot worse I suppose eh.

Cheers.

Hartmut,

I have had too many things going on this last week, plus hurting my back again, and haven’t been following this line of discussion.

What you are nominating – axle centre to arch – is actually the industry standard for measuring and comparing ride heights.  As you say, it eliminates all rim and tyre differences.

Uneven ground can still affect this measurement so it helps to try to find a level bit to do the measuring.  (This isn’t a problem in most workshops.)  Switching the vehicle end for end helps eliminate ground differences.

Les

Hi All (with measuring tapes)  just a thought : wouldn’t it a bit less confusing if we all would measure from middle of axle to wheel arch, that would cut out the difference in wheel size.

Or if there is a reason for it why we can’t do this please let everybody know.

I was thinking the same thing. Could also just be more specific in asking what measurements we want. Guess it's just what people are used to. I personally measure the ground clearance eg. 26.5cms stock  as the specs of most 4x4s and are given in this manner. so easier to compare.

Subject: [Syncro_T3_Australi a] 12volt cooling

If anyone is interested I have gone nuts and bought a 12v swamp cooler/
air con from the US

Specifically this one (Mk4):

http://www.swampy. net/mk3.html

It should arrive just in time for the DOVW with a bit of luck so if
anyone wants to try it out they will be most welcome.

Not cheap but if it keeps the kids cool on long journeys it will be
money well spent.

The US postal service has dramatically increased their prices
apparently so buying stuff from Gowesty etc is now really expensive.
$350 just in shipping for a set of 4 springs.

Cheers
Gary
