Michael,
In short .... yes and yes.
However may I suggest though ... a half decent 2 or 3 watt (5 watt is better) portable (handheld) CB radio plus some spare batteries would suffice, so long as one stays within CB radio range of the group leader. Unfortunately that doesn't always happen, which then makes things somewhat difficult for all and sundry.
Ideally, all participants need the ability to be "in the loop", i.e., send/receive info to/from the tour leader and/or others in the group for each days tagalong. For safety reason alone, it is needed.
Hope this helps. Michael, is there a problem with achieving this?
Cheers.
Ken
