G'day from Thailand :-)

Hi everyone,

My name is PAT from Bangkok, Thailand. I often visit Manly, Sydney back to the year 2008.

I myself own 2 T3s twin cab ute.. one is 2wd with 1.9 TD engine, 18" mag wheel and some of og accessories. The other one is Syncro equipped with f/r diff lock and decoupler, Subaru EJ25 just installed with LPG system, Power steering wheel, Tristar mirror and 16" merc mag wheel.

The Syncro ute I got is a pmg bus. I won an auction of a university in northern province. You cant imagine how much does the T3 ute cost here cos just a few imported to my country. Price for ute VW is the same as new.. New Beetle in OZ.

Usually go out with T3 trip around Thailand. T3 is a popular car in VW scene here but not to Malaysia, Lao, Vietnam, Cambodia and Burma. Seem only Thailand crazy that much.

Decoupler is a highly recommend if you travel a lot with Syncro! Gives you much better petrol consuming so the LPG too.

Actually, I m a member of DSK, split bus site in OZ, if some DSKer seen this post please let me know. :-)

Happy day to all,
PAT

Pat,

Welcome to the Syncro_T3_Australia group.  You are our first member from anywhere in Asia .

Did you install the EJ25 yourself?  What type of LPG system are you using?

Les

In Thailand we only have Propane so no choice. :-)

I did install suby with a friend of mine here. We have our own workshop (my friend's place) so it's not that difficult to do it our own. We already installed suby to 7 T3s. I have made our own adapter and fly wheel to swap the suby into T3.

Will post some pic of installing suby later. Do you guy still with og engine?
Pat,

On my honeymoon 12 years ago, I managed to spot a very nice T3 caravelle syncro and it has its place in my photo album with all the Phuket & Bangkok photos.

You have a fantastic place over there and if we ever get the time and the money we will be back over again.

Your love of T3 Syncros has reaffirmed my impression that the Thai people are great.

Hope you can sort out your political problems soon.

Cheers,

Scott

Hello Pat,

I met a fellow called Kraisorn from Bangkok a few years ago. He had a
couple of T3's but neither were Syncros.

We had met online when he bought sime longer wheel studs from me.
Ironically, We met in person before his parts arrived. My fiancé and I
were on a cruise ship which stopped at Pataya Beach. Kraisorn made the
two hour drive to the port from BKK to see us. Loved the leather Audi-
style interior and nice overhead AC system. I understand those are
domestically produced in Thailand. Now the T3 he brought was a two-
tone painted 2wd. Still had the original Wasserboxer engine.

This must have been a few years ago. At that time Kraisorn said T3's
were relatively unwanted in Thailand and were very affordable. Of
course, he was not referring to Syncros. By the relative scarcity of
T3's in BKK, I thought you might know this fellow who owns two or more
of them.

<grinning> Well Les, I might be in California but technically from Asia. Hehehe. Philippines to be exact. I'll be back there sometime next month.

Coincidentally, I am tinkering with a 2.2EJT in one of my T3's this is on a 2wd. This engine would have clearance issues in a Syncro because the stock location of the turbo places it relatively close to the fuel tank. The conversion was done by the previous owner with a KEP adapter plate and a homemade rear engine carrier. This T3 was originally did not have PS. The DPO (dreaded previous owner), used the PS pump bracket as one of the pick-up for his engine carrier. Now that I am adding PS, there is no place to install the pump. I will need to either re-design the engine carrier or buy one of the commercially available carriers.

Burley Beveridge at www.Burleysmotorsports.com makes a nice carrier incorporated into a larger but shorter oilpan. I feel it is a bit too robust for my application as it was designed with a trailbashing Syncro in mind. BTW, this is the same fellow who is making tubular upper control arms with corrected geometry on raised Syncros. His control arms also replace the troublesome bushes with Heim-joints.

Cheers,

BenT

Scott,

Thanks for your compliment on our reputation.

If you could send me the picture of Syncro you taken while you were here I might send it to the present owner if I can recognize the bus.

Thanks for you e-mail. It's not the political problem we have here. It's failure of monarchy we're facing.

You got to check news before you will made a trip here. Civil war is not over yet.

Cheers'
Pat

Philippines to be exact. I'll be back there sometime

Somebody else said something like that! :)
Thanks for dropping us a line from Thailand, Pat. It's fun to find out about T3 Syncro subcultures in other countries - a Thai group sounds pretty exotic from over here.

All the best (and for the future of your country),

Francesca.

Oh THAT guy. I was referring to 2 decades forward from him. My grandfather served under him in Corregidor just before his trip to OZ.

Ben,

The fat Imelda isn’t quite in the same league as Macarthur – fortunately!

But hey, Australia has just sworn in its first woman Prime Minister, also not in the same league as the fat Imelda – fortunately!

Do you mean not as smart as the fat Imelda?
Ummm... I met the woman when she was still a trophy wife. Pretty soon we all get old and start collecting shoes. In my case, collecting T3's.

Seems to me Pat's country has the most peaceful revolutions around. Growing up in Southeast Asia, you kind of get used to coups. I still remember concealing details to my significant other about an active coup at one of my destinations. Of course, I had no idea the rebels were headquartered at the hotel across the street from mine. Figured it out when I saw the tanks roll in. Oh well, half and hour of excitement and a few loud noises later, went back to finish breakfast. The mangos were yummy!

You must realize by now she was running the country and not Ferdinand,
