Go Westy Alternator Bracket Query

Hi All. Just wondering if someone has this installed and can offer an opinion please.  Cheers. Jim R

Hi Jim,

I see there are now two models available.

I installed the GoWesty original alternator support bracket version, slightly different to the current one.

On its own, the original support bracket is suss and is known to fail... causing major inconvenience.

Good insurance ... just need to decide which model.

Sounds interesting, had not heard of that one or that problem before.

Looks like another upgrade I need to look into!!!

Thanks for that. Glad to hear. I think the first upgrade bracket plus the second (monster) bracket looks a winning combo for the dollars.

Just curious. If you have a functioning alternator bracket, can you just buy the monster bracket as an additional support. Or is it just to be extra safe that you should get both brackets?

I also have installed the original GoWesty one when I had stripped a thread on the house mount it added considerable rigidity that was previously lacking.

hhhmmmmm


So ideally it sounds like you need:

An alternator with bearings in good working condition,

An original bracket still in place ... in good unstressed condition,

No stressed threads in the crankcase that bolt the original bracket in place,

Both supplementary GoWesty support bracket kits.


Too easy. HA!

I was thinking similar Ken. So assuming the bearings don't fail and it's installed carefully there's no real issue?

Still good insurance. Another thing for the ever growing to do list!

I have been more worried about the power steering pump, that mount is very loose!

Thanks Jim. I am now fully informed. Have an alternator rebuild kit. So will get help from Hart to do that and also get BOTH brackets from GoWesty.

Hi Peter. I've just ordered both brackets. Freight expectation to Sydney is outlined in the email response I received and have included below.
The website states shipping costs are adjusted up or down accordingly.
I expect yours may be similar.

If you need to replace your bracket the alt-fix, and Moster bracket will not solve your issue. We currently do not have any new alternator brackets to offer, but there’s a good chance we have a used bracket available if you e-mailUsedparts@gowesty.com. If your alternator bracket has failed I would recommend reinforcing your replacement with the ALT-FIX-KIT, and MONSTER-BRACKET.
