Great Gallery of 'Bulli' 60th Anniversary Hannover

Guys,

a australian automotive magazine photographer was recommended to this
gallery recently (even though he has no particular interest in VW -
can't understand why) as there is some great photography of the recent
60th Birthday celebrations in Hannover, including the concert with The
Who.

There are some great shots of factory vehicles, plus many attending
vehicles.

Apart from the Red Syncro Doka in the factory display, there are a few
Syncro shots:

89
90
111 (note Caravelle sliding window in panel van)
205

General T3
Many LLE - Limited Last Edition - 1992 T3s made in Austria as a
special run well after the T4 started manufacture. These only were
produced in Red or Blue I understand, and are numbered on the outside
from 1 to 2500. Note some have Fog Lights with different grill.

180 onwards some T3 shots
191 - interesting vents in partially open front windows

Enjoy!

Mark.

Note - slideshow works well and you can type in the image number
directly as well.
Mark,

Thanks for finding this interesting collection.

A few comments:

Pic 24 - whiteant's delight.
Pics 25 & 30 - I think this is the first prototype Syncro
Pics 27 & 132 - what in the world is it?
Pic 65 - another Syncro

Great pics, made greater by the fact that most of the vehicles are better than brand new.

It's a "Plattenwagen". These were used to transport parts around the Wolfsburg factory and inspired Ben Pon to design the Transporter.

Hi Phil - exactly, and Ben Pon was the first to sell VWs outside of
Germany. The vehicle was "crudely" designed to solve a problem. Pon
saw potential to solve other delivery opportunities and presented a
sketch to Heinrich Nordhoff - the new manager of the Wolfsburg factory
who had just taken over from Ivan Hirst, the British Superintendent of
the factory.
