Mobil 1

Hello, those of you that use Mobil 1 engine oil in their syncro can you tell me what grade oil you use is it 5W 50? Greg
Greg,
Yes, 5W 50 is it. With the rider that in terms of heat, that MOST of your driving is in usual comfortable Oz climate. If MOST of your driving is in uncomfortable (hot) Oz climate, you may be better to reconsider choice and properties of your engine oil. This is not my idea, simply advice proferred to me from a respected source.
Cheers.
Ken

Yes 50 grade is as far as I know the best made for hot weather. (I haven't heard of a 60 yet?)

It doesn't make any difference if it is 0W50, 5W50 or 30W50. When it gets hot it is 50. Any of the Mobil 1 engine oils are suitable. The last one that I bought cost around $90! Get what you can afford.

Phill

Thanks Phil I wondered if the 5w could be the cause of the noisy hydraulic lifters I get on occasion. 5 being too thin. Greg

I had a problem with lifters rattling as I do not drive very often. When I started using Mobil 1 it cured the problem.

Phill,
Sorry, can't help further right now, I didn't cross examine him on his reasoning at the time. Hardly my place to grill him anyway. I understood though it was based upon his own driving experiences, climatic circumstances and ongoing review. Being more southerly and where I drive, he felt my circumstances were unlike his, hence he felt Mobil 1 was fine for me ... much the same then as I contend Mobil 1 would be fine for you also.

So I have no reason to pursue this further other than to say should the opportunity ever arise, I'll ask about his current findings.

Cheers.

Ken
