new engine

Hi all  There has been now comments on my new engine fitment

Alf
Yesterday afternoon I had a good chat on the phone with Alf about his "new engine" the diesel TDI. Since I have a TDI 1Z in my syncro it was good to get some clues off Alf, because unlike me, he has diesel knowledge. When I got mine installed by somebody else in 2004 I just had a passion that I wanted a diesel, not any real clue about the whole process.

Anyway it it is good to have someone on the list who knows about diesels and I hope I'm not speaking out of turn but I'm sure that Alf would be fine with chatting to you if you were serious about going the same route. I am too but I'm not as cluey as Alf.

One thing I forgot to ask you Alf was what sort of engine mounts do you have, Hydraulic or normal? I've got some sort of Subaru mount, not hydraulic.

Thanks for the chat Alf, hopefully we can catch up in person one day.

Hi Bruce
I have used audi engine mounts (supposedly hydraulic) from an audi 100

Hello Alf
I would think that they would be a much better idea than standard mounts, cut down the vibration. Which is something that my syncro could do with.

The first mounts I started with were just some VW mount which weren't up to it. When I started the engine it twisted so they were pretty useless. These Subaru ones are at least better than they were.

Bruce,

This is the reason that the group exists – mutual help.

Les
