Unfortunately, the septics (and not a few other supposedly English-speaking nationalities, do have a problem with the few gender discriminated first names, Leslie and Lesley being a common mistake. Some years ago, I was in communication with a GM woman engineer whose first name was ‘Leslie”; it transpired that she was totally unaware of the existence gender discriminated first name spellings. Initially, she told me that I was wrong and there was no such spelling as Lesley – the she did some fact-checking!)I therefore dissociate myself from the wrongly named exes.
I knew a lady who had named a daughter ‘Seleste’; she was unaware of the correct spelling and was a bit disgruntled to find that she had been wrong for the last eighteen years! The daughter had worked it out a long time ago but never told her mother.

You do a fantastic job. I will not hold it against you that you share your first name not just with my ex-wife's but my brother's ex as well. And no we were not married to the same woman (& neither of us were married to men).

Two poor kids were stuck up the top in the Ferris wheel and had to be rescued.
Other than that my life is a lot quieter than yours although a Rebels Biker gang drove through my local beach during my daughter nippers carnival last Sunday. Nippers is the young surf-life-saver stuff we crazy Aussies do here.

Ben,
Sadly, the ‘synchro’ problem is not confined to the US .
It has taken a number of years to re-educate the Volkswagen Club of Victoria. For many years, we were described as the Synchro group in club communications and publications.
We have finally got that point through to them but still lack even grudging recognition in some quarters. The annual Day of the Volkswagen in Victoria was held yesterday and the grudging aspect was again apparent.

Ben,
A good stroke of one-ups-manship!
Here in Victoria , the SYNCRO plate has been taken for a long time and the current plate owner came to us yesterday at the Day of the Volkswagen and made himself known.
My plate is SYNCR0, with the last character being the number zero, not the letter ‘O’. That’s as close as I could get.

Phill,
That’s most interesting. Wherever I have seen lower case in official VAG publications, I have assumed it to be a minor translation problem.
Given that we now have looney model names like “Up!”, I don’t think that it matters a lot which spelling we adopt!!!

In fact, we have a German certified technical translator amongst our members – Joachim Dietlicher . Joachim is away on holidays at the moment but will probably pick up on this when he gets back.

I think that it's a German thing. Nouns are upper case. syncro and
quattro are adjectives(?). Maybe some of the German sprechers can help me here.
I saw a press release in the '80s that mentioned that quattro should always be
lower case. I assume that syncro is the same.
