OZ Performance chip for WBX 2.1 ECU

All,

This was a recent topic that was of interest to members.

Just found amongst my files the attached Oz based docco.

Acknowledgements to all parties named in this article.

I've improved the readability and converted it to PDF.

This may shed some further detail albeit perhaps now only of historical interest?

Then again, maybe Vintage VeeDub Supplies has more to say on this.

Cheers.

Ken

Believe it or not, I have one of these chips for sale for US$80,
postage included.

Paypal to derekdrew@derekmail.com.

The only reason I have it is because I switched to a subaru H6 3.0L
platform and don't need any 2.1L parts anymore.

I also have 1.4 ratio rockers to go with it, but thats another story
(meaning I have not priced those yet).

I also have DJ piston set, but that too is another story (meaning, I
have not priced those yet).

I called Oz and interviewed the inventor/developer of the OZ 2.1L
chip before getting mine.

The chip is not guaranteed, but if you don't like it you can send it
back and I'll refund your money.

It has never been installed and is brand new.

Hi Derek,

I would like that chip please.
I would also like to negotiate for the gene berg rockers.
I will email you directly.
Cheers

Well, I've had a lot of interest and a lot of questions.

I think I have 3 or 4 of the chips, and also people asked about the ratio rockers and the rods and the DJ piston set.

So, I think what I'll do is to research what I have so I can answer all the questions at once and then put them up all at once on ebay in about a week or two for $1 each and let that mechanism sort out what happens.

Thanks for asking about it, and I'll email you the link when I put it up.

The other side.....down falls of such a conversion is broken rocker studs..and worn valve guides and valve spring damage due to bidding and incorrect valve geomentry..... there is a lot more to this than adding more fuel and a bigger lift....oettinger laughed at us in 1994 when we talked about such conversions over the 120hp 2.1 and 2.5 kits.....even on the wbx 6cyl the std ratio rockers are used....always good to have healthy debate......

It could also increase valve wear. Less time seated to dissapate the heat.

Phil do you know the hp claims that went along with this conversion ?As Oettinger stated the only safe gain is changing the camshaft profile we preformed 25-30 such conversions with cam and barrel piston change gaining close to 25hp improvement.....remeber both vw and oettinger engineers worked hand in hand....the 6cyl was developed by vw and oettinger followed through in its final development.Ecu upgrades are also a debatable topic.....the std 2.1 ecu is used in all oettingers upgrades up to 2.5 litre...simply adding more fuel without remapping ignition can lead to higher fuel consumption....all these factors work together......fuel/air/igntion and valve timing altering them without extensive dyno work will affect the life expectanty on any engine...am not bagging anybodies improvements only stating some obvios facts based on experience-- In Syncro_T3_Australia@yahoogroups.com, plander@... wrote:

I think that it may have been 10-12 horsepowers.

I don't think that a chip is very cost effective unless it's a turbo. Would you spend $2k for a distributor recurve and bigger jets for your carby?

The only upgrade that I would do is DJ pistons.
