Parts Suppliers in the US

I am collecting a set of syncro hoses and require some that are not available in Australia.
251 121 072
251 121 058B
251 121 072A
251 121 058H

I've just priced 2 small hoses and the postage from Van Cafe is over $100.

Who is reasonable to deal with in the US. (Bus Depot, Van Again etc.)

Phill

Phill,
I have found Bus Depot to be the most reasonable more often than others. Unfortunately, they do not always have the best stock.
I performed a quick search and found the following:
Bus Depot Van Cafe
251 121 072 $55.66 $59.85
251 121 058B $11.15 out
251 121 072A out $47.70
251 121 058H $6.98 out
Different vendors have differing format of part numbers. Makes searching cumbersome. Bus Depot uses the VW system of spaces every three digits, most of the time. On some parts, they appear to add their own suffix. VanCafe uses periods between every 3 digits. Vanagain uses not spaces at all. GoWesty uses dashes.
I have had contact with most of the aforementioned vendors. Ron of Bus Depot is a longtime regular contributor on the Vanagon List. He usually acquires parts in bulk in Europe and does most of his own importing. He is located in the Eastern US in Pennsylvania IIRC. Peter at VanCafe is on my coast, He's two hours drive to Santa Cruz. He's a great business guy though not a typical car guy. By that I mean he does not really work on his own rig. Most of his parts come from distributor 2 hours north of me. Same fellow supplies Lucas at GoWesty in Los Osos, California. But them GoWesty buys from everybody including yours truly. Ken at Vanagain is in the East Cost in New Jersey. He has a smaller operation and does not stock very much. In fact, none of the hoses in your list is in stock. All of the above vendors also order parts from OPI two hours away from me.
Most of these folks, just like my local T3 specialist, can order the hoses on your list. I just did not find it in their online systems.
I hope that helps.

I've done real well with them, never a problem actually.

price wise ..
price per se is not important to me ( within reason of course )
service and quality are what are most important to me.

I can recommend Van Cafe for sure in that regard.

I don't mind paying for quality or good service but I am not paying $100 for postage that actually costs around $10. They were only two small hoses that would have fitted in my pocket.

I've dealt with both and find them equally helpful. All things being equal, I vote for the less expensive alternative. I have used both as they do not always offer the same products. For example: Ron at BD appears to have extensive connections on the UK supply side of the house such as from  JustKampers. Peter at VanCafe is bigger of custom parts an German parts via Jeff S.

For Vanagon Listmembers, Bus Depot has had discount for more than a decade that I am aware. Never heard if such as discount at Van Cafe. Besides for customers in California, we have to add State sales tax in top of the prices I listed. Out-of-State & non-US orders do not pay that tax.

I would be curious to know why you prefer one over the other though. Am I overlooking something?

Scott Just wondering if you have any contacts for a 1.6 Turbo Diesel fuel pump? I'm having trouble getting one in Australia. I need a Bosch part number 0460494138

I've tried the guys at VW Diesel and Diesel VW who have US websites but still waiting for confirmation if the part number is correct. Also tried VW parts place.

Need a rebuilt one rather than one from a wrecker.

Cheers
Gary

Phill, get your parts delivered to your door, and pay for it with the cost of your parts. If not, anyone who even looks at your delivery,at the airport, will add a fee to it.The UPS fee was the smallest of all the fees I was charged when I recieved things from the States.I think even the sniffer dogs got a cut!Haha

US Postal Service to Oz has no brokerage fees to private parties. Can't beat zero cost.

I agree. They now offer a flat rate service to Oz. Basically, it is a shoebox size for a US$44-$50 fee. I can't remember exactly. Excellent for small heavy items because you can put up to 70lbs in there. AC brackets, calipers, compressors, alternators, etc. Just to name a few items which can fit in the box. When I sent brackets to Les & Harmut, I was able to throw a recent EMPI catalog in there at no additional postage. It agricultural inspections were not a problem, I could even send California sand mud from the site of most Syncro de Mayo.

It will be if they check.

They only do random checks here.

True, same thing here. But I don't think I can make Count Vlad the Impaler with some of his native soil in such a small box.;-)

The other possibilities are almost endless. By the by, whoever was looking for 16" backing plates, I just confirmed that they are exactly the same as the lighter LT rear backing plates. Only the drums are 16" specific.

Ralph,
Since that price list was from my email, I thought to answer you. If you look at the link below at Van Cafe, you can see the difference betwen the two hoses:

Ben,

One could get into trouble with part numbers

I have also found that part # 025.121.058H is the same as # 251 121 058H Expansion Tank Hose to Outer Pipe

What then do the first 3 digits mean?

Ralph
