Plastic 4way? coolant manifold removal and replacement

Hay guys have a cracked coolant manifold drivers side of engine held in place by wire clip. The larger pipes have spring clamps on the pipes however they are above therefore hard to access from below. Any tips before I start removing clip and clamps.
Are all replacements plastic as well or is there a alloy or other to choose from.
Don't think it will be cheap?
Thanks in advance Pete
Pete. You'll need to remove the air filter box ti get top access but most of the job is done from underneath. The plastic ones are no longer available but Mick motors in brisbane stock the stainless replacement for about $200 from memory. Van cafe are a bit cheaper. Bill

Heh Pete,

To R&R the plastic coolant distributor, requires access to both sides of the firewall/distributor. First time is the hardest to R&R it, at least you get to orient the clips to best advantage (to suit the pliers you're using) so it's easier the next time.

If the original spring clips are still in place, I recommend you stay with them rather than change to screw-ups.

Get the plastic distributor to the workbench, eyeball/test it for location of crack/s, check all external and as much of internal surfaces as you can see. Determine if it's repairable or not, if it is, I'd suggest you first clean then prep (rough sand) an area larger than the crack and simply JB Weld it back to life. Works a treat. Last you forever. Buy it from Jaycar. Good stuff.

If you choose instead to buy the replacement stainless steel distributor, be aware that whereas the plastic one can be securely held in place by the wire clip to the firewall, there is no such provision with the SS one. Fencing wire, okky strap or gaffa tape  ... really???!!!

Prior to re-install, check the insides for advancing splitting of the rubber hoses that fit to the distributor, in particular the S shaped hose on the engine bay side. This hose does a lot of work and is the most likely hose to fail.

Happy days ... you get to learn a lot as you go!

Cheers.
Ken

Hey Bill, Tried to call you to get Lukes number to see if he still has that Syncro he was wrecking, would rather pay him for the 4 way coolant manifold and not send money OS. Or any one else here on the forum who has one they want to sell ?
Regards Pete
