"VW Camper is reborn"

This "campervan" concept car currently being shown at the Geneva motor show has a certain deja vu element about its announcement and I agree with the general comments that question whether there is really sufficient room within it for a true camper. Be interesting if the power sources find their way into future van production.although I would optimistically be more interested in the prospects for retrofitting.

What will eventually kill off VW T3 Syncro campervans is fuel pricing.

With each VW van incarnation since 1993, clearly VW won't.

On that subject, is anyone getting more interested in LPG conversions with the rising price of fuel? I wonder whether anyone on this forum has an idea about outfits in Melbourne that could be trusted to do a good job?

Francesca.

It's a shame that Gary Lee doesn't offer an LPG kit as most of his products are very well made. Here's his T3 with dual fuel Petrol/LPG.

I'd be interested to know where the tank is placed. Thats always the problem for camper conversions. If there was a way of placing the tank under the vehicle without sacrificing to much ground clearance then maybe the life of the vanagon could be extended. Does anyone know of such a tank positioning?
Cheers Michael

Rudi Purkart has his tank under the rear seat/bed along with an auxiliary battery and tool storage all behind a neat cabinet.  He would definitely be worth talking to,

Another option is to convert to diesel and run 50% veggie oil. The conversion cost would buy a lot of fuel though. Good for those people who already have diesel powered syncros. This is what some UK syncro owners are doing

I just put vitron seals in the pump of my diesel but not sure i'd be game to try it on non petro diesel as it seems to clear the last 20 years of deposits from the entire system, no doubt causing a nasty blockage.

But that can take up a hell of lot of precious interior space. Has any seen an LPG tank placed externally? Is it allowed?.

Michael,

You can get a gas tank shaped like a spare wheel to go under the back of utes.  Perhaps you could put it under the front where your spare wheel goes and put the spare wheel on a tyre carrier at the back.
