Re; Kombis to the Kape

Good luck to all the intrepid travllers. It's a good trip but can be
just a long Sunday drive. We did it ten years ago in June when it
involved fording the Wenlock with half a metre of water. A side trip to
the Iron Range and Chilli Beach is worthwhile (more water)if you have
time.Twin Falls (more water)south of the Jardine is worth the
trouble. We left the old telegraph road and all the creek crossings to
the cowboys and used the bypasses. The first days drive north of the
Jardine gets or got so badly corrigated I had to replace both rear
shocks at Wepa on the way south. We caught the barge from Wepa to
Kurumba then west to Lawn Hill, Mt Isa and home.I carried one spare and
a jerrycan and didn't need either. No hotshot radio required as another
car would be along in ten minutes.Prob. five minutes now.Hint.Beer cans
wear through on corrigations.Take stubbies.
Cheers
John.
Thanks John,
Useful and in many ways reassuring information as I'm still in the quandry of whether I will be cursing myself for weighing myself down with extra equipment that is not needed, or cursing because I don't have it when it is. Hope my Bilsteins hold out on the corrugations although they seem to be doing pretty well so far. Good point on the aluminium cans although I thought I could recycle them at Weipa.
Hope to keep everyone posted with some photos. If I don't come back I've asked my wife to have "Of course I can tell the difference between a fresh and saltwater crocodile" on my tombstone.
Cheers
Roger
