Re: Parts Suppliers

Les,

I bought my Decoupler (needle roller version) as mention previously
on this forum from,SYNCRO SERVICES in Germany www.Syncro-Services.com

I also recently bought a new Air Flow Meter from Van Cafe in the
USA http://www.van-cafe.com

On the other hand I suspect Ken has secret list, I reckon we could
bribe him with a slab of Vic Bitter and be done with it.

Cheers
Theo
Theo,
I'm curious as to why you bought a new AFM.
Did you not first try carrying out maintenance on your own AFM before embarking on replacement? There is sequence info available for AFM maintenance.
Cheers.
Ken

Ken,
Two VW mechanics told me my AFM is not working properly and can't be
repaired. The air flap was ok but the potentiometer signals were not
correct.Maybe I went overboard with buying a new unit but the engine
seems to run a bit smoother.

Theo
Theo,
Easy for them to say that eh.
In particular it is the potentiometer board that needs servicing to restore proper functionality. Not too hard.

Suggest you service the AFM and keep it as a spare, even if you don't use it, it's possible in the future you can make it available to help someone else get back on the road while they get their own faulty one serviced.
Cheers.
Ken

Ken,
Now I be interested how to get the potentiometer back in order.
I removed the black lid had a look how things moved and cleaned it
with CO Contact Cleaner, but no improvement.
Please tell me what else needs to be done. I certainly keep it as a
spare,especially as I run on LPG.(back fire)
Cheers

Les and group,as well a Florian with his decouplers,I have purchased front control arm bushes(urethane 2 -piece) from Syncro Hospital in South Africa.Stuart has heaps of good stuff, not a real easy payment option as he doesnt take credit card.
I have bought the majority of my conversion parts from Small Car in the States. They have also heaps of standard replacement parts.Very good on-line shop and easy to use.RJES Engineering in England couldnt be more recomended for conversion parts.
Although I havent purchased anything from them, Go Westy in California have some excellent replacement parts and on-line shop.
In Sydney, try Tooleys or Mullers for parts but remember, some parts for these vehicles are already obselete. If there still available genuine parts can be very, very expensive.
One day we will ALL have to go the cheaper, Brazil or Chinese options. That will hurt some of us.heh.

Theo,
Take a look in the files section on the Syncro forum. You should find an article concerning AFM maintenance by Peter Kestel. I and I believe others have followed the procedures described and with excellent outcomes. More often than not, the AFM causes trouble in due course simply due to the fact it is overlooked as being a maintenance item.
Cheers.
Ken
