254DC5 is a Kombi Syncro. It is not year specific.

TC=Transmission Code (6PA etc)
TYP=Transmission Type (VA=syncro)

That's correct. Anything built after August 1989 is a 1990 model. Yours is a 1990 model.

The built date plate was put on at Wetherill Park by TKM employees. I've seen the people that worked there!

Don't know.

No, the car would not have been driven until the compliance plate was fitted.

The cars are stored in "bond" until they are to be sold. Then the taxes/duties are paid and the compliance plates are fitted. My Audi TT was complianced 2 years after manufacture.

When I went to the holding yard at Whetheril Park, to see the syncro that I was buying, and to test drive a non power steer syncro, I was allowed into the yard but told not to go past the gate into the bond area as it was very naughty. Even most of the TKM employees were not allowed in there.

I ordered my syncro and after a couple of days they had the compliance plate fitted, so I picked it up and drove it to the VW dealer (Muller & Muller) to be detailed.

There would have been no wall ceiling linings behind the driver.

Ken, there should be a list of "M" codes on the paper sticker. These are 3 digit numbers.
