Rear wheel alignment

Just had my wheels balanced and aligned to Derek Drews specs (US syncro site) and toe of rear left wheel came back way out. Spec -0.08 to +0.26 and mine was +1.3. The mechanic said the rear wheels cannot be aligned. Is this true ? I thought they could be. Please advise as I looked in Bently and could not find the instructions on "How" to alighn / adjust rear wheels. maybe I am looking in the wrong spot.
Thanks.
Nick.

Nick,

Seems like your mechanic is not familiar with the syncro/T3. The rear wheels can be aligned and the procedure is outlined in Bently 44.4

Nick,

It certainly is adjustable and it is covered in Bentleys, Section 44 from memory.  It is a very simple process that any mechanic or good wheel aligning place can follow.

the outer forward bushing on the trailing arms can be moved around a little bit where it's bolted into the body.

by your rear jacking point ...
see that little hole above the bolt for the bushing there ?

that hole is there specifically to put a pointy tool into , to move the bushing around some.

there sure is a lot of misinformation.
and .....this one really gets me...
professionals talking to women customers ..sometimes they will make up all kinds of baloney since they figure the person being a woman won't know any better.
Vanagons most definitely have a little adjustment in the rear alignment.

I like the thing I heard about a mechanic talking to a lady who obviously had no clue about cars and he told her the reason for the delay in repairing her car and the size of the bill was that he needed to replace the halogen headlight fluid as it was very low and he needed to wait for some to come in. There was a few other similar things as well that made no sense.

I understand this young lady showed the bill to her father who promptly sorted this bloke out.

Cheers,
