Reminder: Melbourne Meet-up

Hi all,

This is just to remind those interested that we are having a meet-up next Sunday, 18 April, at 10.00 am, at Edinburgh Gardens in North Fitzroy. Anyone who has not yet responded is most welcome to roll up. Perhaps bringing something to share for morning tea might be a nice idea, and no doubt a few of us can whip up cups of tea or coffee in the comfort of our campers to go around.

Regards,

Francesca.

I think we all know the precise location, but if anyone is unsure, drop me a line.

Good stuff, i will be there

Could you please give me the point of entry to the Gardens?  I have it in an email somewhere – somewhere in my much overfull inbox…!

Hi Les,

It's entering off Alfred Cresent, more or less opposite North Fitzroy Primary School. You'll see a paved road leading into the park, at the end of which is a small parking lot and a fenced children's playground. We'll just have to hope that there will be room for us all to squeeze our Syncros in; I estimate that the max. capacity of the carpark is 10 vehicles.

Francesca,

The other day, I had a look at the Edinburgh Gardens.
I thought that it is a rather tight space to move.
What about if one wants to show off it's latest gadgets
or whatever with a test drive. No, can't do.
Being an inner city park, I guess there will be competition
for the few parking spots.

I previously mentioned Brimbank Park, which has plenty of
parking spaces, public shelter and much more of a out-door
setting. Just right for a Syncro get-together.
Just a thought.

Cheers,
Theo
Hi Theo,

I'm easy either way, really. It is a bit of a tight space, I know. What do the others think about shifting to Brimbank Park?

I don't mind moving either as it is a bit small but i'll probably have my boys with me so the proximity of a playground is good. Where is Brimbank Park?

Could you suggest a specific spot in Brimbank Park, Theo, that meets the criteria? I've never been there, either. It's out beyond Pascoe Vale on the Maribyrnong, is that right?

Theo,

The original idea was just a local meeting of Syncro owners because we otherwise get together only once a year at the DOTVW.

If anyone wants a field day, at which vehicles can be driven, it needs to be organized specifically.  This would be a good idea and give us three meetings a year instead of the one we have now.  Such a venue would obviously be further out of the city.

Brian Reed goes to the VW Club of Victoria camping weekend at Kennett River each year.  There are lots of mountain tracks behind it and this might be a suitable venue, incorporating an overnight stop,

Francesca, Gary, Les,

Brimbank Park is located in Keilor East, Melway map 14J9, UBD map 190 J17
The entrance to the park is at Map 15 B15 off Keilor Park Drive.
It has all the facilities asked for: BBQs, playgrounds, shelter, no
dirt tracks - all bitumen.
Ideal for bush bike rides. The easiest way to get there is along
Tullamarine Calder Fwy or
the Western Ring Rd..
Well lets see what the consensus is.

Cheers,
Theo
I'm just as happy to go to Brimbank Park on Sunday, but we'll see what the others have to say. It would be a bit of an eleventh hour change and may not fit with everyone. I think Roger's away at the moment, so we would need to hear from him in time.

I'd prefer to stick with the original plan even if the carpark gets a bit full i'm sure we could manage. I've got a full weekend of kid's commitments so i'll only be sneaking this one in anyway. Brimbank sounds good but more of a day out for me.

This proposal has been on the table for months and I would prefer that it not to be subjected to a total change in the last few days. The original intention was to have a middle of the day get-together.

There are other places where we can meet and there are other times that we can meet but we should do this as a separate arrangement.  This can be based on a full day or it can be a night away in a more distant location.

Yes, I was trying to be accommodating, but I think we should stick with the original arrangement at this stage. Last minute changes of plan when many people are involved are best avoided. The venue might not be perfect, but we'll make the best of it. Perhaps Brimbank next time? Thanks for suggesting it as a nice place, Theo.

Hi Francesca

Thanks for your concern. Just for future reference and if I ever get my van to behave long enough to get out of town, there is some fabulous country out here in Far East Gippland. Wingan Inlet and Cape Conran, Errinundra Plateau and Snowy River are all in close proximation but ideal syncro country, so diverse, temperate climate. For future consideration, that all. A lot of bitumen I know, but well worth it when you get here.

Regards

Michael

Yes, I'd love to get down there. We've been thinking of a Croajingalong Syncro family tour for a while. Never enough time! We are going to discuss the idea of a Syncro camping weekend on Sunday too. Best of luck,

Hi Vic members,

I’ll see you all tomorrow, and I have a couple of items for discussion.

  1. While I’m sure some of us have the expertise to organize it (not me), we rarely get to do an off-road event. Consequently, I’ve spoken to a fellow VWCV member, Chris Antonello, who has offered to scout a tour for us. Chris drives a T3 (2wd) amongst other things, but is a long time member of ‘other’ 4wd clubs and has also organized ordinary (not 4wd) tours for the VW club, and is quite familiar with 4wd areas north of Melbourne. Tomorrow, I’d like to get an idea of how many people might be interested (non attendees can email me), and what sort of tour we’d like. (eg. day or overnight, level of difficulty, overall length, etc), and some idea of when might be suitable for most members.

2.   Next weekend (Anzac weekend), I’m going to this little music festival  http://www.wix.com/damianhoward/pinnaclesI know it’s late notice, in fact ticket sales have technically closed, but I’ve spoken to an Chris (different Chris, one of the organizers), and some tickets are still available. It’s not exactly a syncro event (although, apparently if you come in the wrong way it can be a challenge), but looks like a nice riverside bush camp, fairly laid back, with some good music for the weekend. Any-one interested let me know, so we can organize to camp together.
