Sold my telstra van.

I have sold my telstra van to Joel a very nice young man(20) who lives in the south west sydney area (campbelltown.) He has the syncro bug big time and i expect he will join the group. He will be on a big learning curve so no doubt the sydney crew will give him friendly support. Hart you'll like this. He lives in a container. Bill.
Bill, did you tell him to buy another container as a garage to keep that paint job nice? Greg E

Well done Joel!

Your ex- telstra van was very nice Bill. I hope Joel enjoys it.

Hi Bill,

The sale of one of our Syncros always comes with various degrees of sadness, I think. Here at Port Mac/Wauchope we had 5 til very recently. 2 went to Bellingen and mine is going into Melboure, why does Melb have so many??? Mystifying to me.
Mine is going to Claire and Jos, who are expecting two firsts! A baby and a Syncro what lovely coincidence ! Jos will always remember the birthday of their child !

Bill , great to read that your man, hopefully, deliberately fled the environment of conventionalism and chose a container  as his habitat to free himself from bank oppression and invest in a rock solid Syncro. Well done .

Sorry Bill, correction, haven't had my caffeine shot yet, the new owner is Jon Bartlett from Melbourne. Hart

Hi Hart/Bill,

One man's loss is another man's gain. We are certainly grateful for the opportunity to take care of a Syncro that was so well loved and cared for.

Our Syncro story started about 5 years when I first spotted one in Fremantle, WA, which had obviously just ended a big trip. Having not been in the country long myself, I though what a perfect vehicle for the task of crossing the country and set about dreaming about similar trips. Since then I have taken a keen interest in and done many hours "research" on the internet around Syncros. What with the new addition to the family around the corner, we thought it a good time to stop becoming a Syncro voyeur. We are looking forward to the many adventures that these vehicles make available. I am sure our (first) new addition will appreciate this growing up (we will avoid putting them in the top bunk without adequate waterproofing, thanks for the tip Roger Bell).

Also would like to say what a great scene you have going here. The DOTVW was a great eye opener for us and we enjoyed chatting to all the Syncro owners (Les, Roger, Theo, Francesca, et al.). We look forward to taking part in the future.

With regards to the number of Syncros in Melbourne, having lived here for two years and Sydney three, I think it comes down to Melbournites appreciating quality in general and the classic no nonsense appeal of these vehicles. They probably are not shiny enough for others (Sydneysiders - controversial!), the obvious exceptions being on this forum.

All the best.

Jon and Claire.

I wonder if that was me in Freo that inspired your Syncro purchase?
I have removable tire and jerry carriers that I don't often leave on around town. Silver tin top.
Good move, great vehicle. You just need a good mechanic that knows these machines.

Jon,

We have a few good places in Melbourne.  If ever you need anything done, always ask us first.  This also applies to parts.

To expand on that a little, Lloyd Davies (Volkwerke, Greensborough) is the current president of the VW Club of Victoria.  He has unmatched experience in all early VW models and this includes the T3 Syncro.   He is very adept at finding parts, both genuine and aftermarket if he deems them to be of acceptable quality.  In this, he has a strong ally in John Goodison (who is also the Technical Officer of the VWC of Vic) who is a goldmine in sourcing hard to find parts.

Volkwerke services a lot of quality machinery; this is done mainly by Lloyd’s two sons while Lloyd specializes in the earlier VWs.

Keeping our Syncros going and going well is made significantly easier by people like Lloyd and John and this constitutes a very good reason to join the VW Club of Victoria.  I have been a member for a long time and a direct benefit of that is the area allocated to us for the DOTVW.  I would suggest that local Syncro owners give serious consideration to joining because, as member numbers go up, so does our influence in the VW Club.   A further plus is establishing closer links with Lloyd and John.

When I bought my Doka it came with a load of paperwork and receipts from various workshops and a lot of the repairs were done by Lloyd repairing the repairs that were done by previous repairers.

If the previous owner would have taken the Doka to Lloyd first, he would have saved a lot of money.

I think that Lloyd would be the number one T3 expert in Australia.
