Starter Motor

One of our Victorian members, Robert Pierce, lent his Syncro to his
son for a holiday in Tasmania, where it karked the starter motor.
Volkspower does not have a single starter motor avialable at the
moment. Does anyone have a functioning 2.1 started motor for sale?

Sorry no good news checked with my service people -Volksrepair Airport West and they haven't one but checked with their Sydney supplier who similarly couldn't help. He confirmed that they are syncro specific (solenoid has a different location due to the rear petrol tank?)
Presume the old trick of a sharp wack on the solenoid with a heavy metal object won't get at least 2-3 more starts out of it if it is the solenoid playing up. Got a woman's car going this way when she was in tears at Melbourne airport one time and she was so overjoyed even I was embarassed.
Hope this won't still  be relevant but will be flying to Launceston on the 15th Aug returning 22nd.

Yahoo!7 Mail has just got even bigger and better with unlimited storage on all webmail accounts. Find out more.

My diff lock vacuum actuator shaft has been bent - by the Shell servo I previously used before I found my current mechanic. It still works but can get stuck on.

Where would I get another one from?

Cheers,

Harry,

It is probably far safer to change the starter motor yourself.  It only takes one little slip to write off the vacuum actuator for the diff lock and the only safe way is to remove it to do the change-over.

Reassembly of the vacuum actuator has to be done very carefully.  It is all to easy to bend the actuator shaft or, worse still, break the end of it off when inserting the roll pin.

If you haven’t got a copy of Bentleys, pmail me.

Hey Harry..

Is your van running a diff lock?? be very careful where you take it to as some people are unaware of the damage  that can be cause if they have 'no idea' on what they are doing.  My electrics mechanic took my diff lock mechanism out then back in to do the starter and bent the servo shaft... broke the diff lock basically.  I hear the you don't even need to touch the diff lock mechanism (blue thing hanging off the diff) to repair/replace the starter..  bad luck for me though $650 plus broken diff lock = awesome!!

Scott,

The end of my actuator shaft was broken off before I bought my Syncro.  I can make it operate but the only real solution is to extract the broken end and do it properly.

I bought one a couple of years ago and Australia was the cheapest place to buy it at the time.

251 711 822 Throttle control element.

I think it was under $80

It's only a phone call to find out.

We are meeting @ the top of the hill just past the Kariong Shell servo along that parking area @ 7:45 am for an 8:00am departure. We will be the only syncros but there may be another T3 somewhere in the mix - there are a few fans in the area still.

Shame we cant drag Ken into our little convoy - but it is always a fun drive down and you don't need to remember which way you are going.

I will have to register. Its on the to do list.
