Technical Inspection Agency

Hi Downunder-Syncronauts,

when i take a look at the vehicles in down under, i wonder if there is
not technical inspection agency!? Here in Germany (and also in Austria,
the switzerland and some other european countries) it is nearly
impossible to change the car as you want it.

For exampe changing the shock-system! I build a coil-over-System for my
syncro, but i am sure it will be quite hard to grant the permit to
drive it legal.

I heard that it is quite easy in .au? Isn´t it that a spring has to
fullfill its function and that´s all?
What´s about changing the engine in your syncros`? Here in Germany we
have to bring the confirmation that the new engine won´t pollute the
environment more than the old engine!

Thanx for your information,

Dirk

Yes but it is not as strict as yours. Some modifications require
approval by engineers and some do not.
The laws are different in each state.
You can only really change an engine in Australia to one that has
been type approved. I could put a Golf VR6 2,8 in my car but not a
Corrado VR6 2,9 as it was not approved here.
Springs appear to be free as long as the car is not lowered so that
it reduces the spring travel by more than 33%.

We have a lot of difficulty importing cars making it nearly
impossible to buy a car from Europe and bring it home.

So it is impossible for you or just expensive? So if you want to put
a 2,9 VR6, you can do it and bring your car to the technical
inspection agency to let it check?

That´s sounds nice! :-) BTW, WHO want to lower a syncro? ;-)

Where are the difficulties? As i heard it is quite easy to import
cars from asia? Does it depend on left / right-hand driving?

Very very expensive.

Not easy from Asia unless it is type approved. Some friends of mine
are trying to import Corrados but have not been successful.

Well, what will they check? The exhaust? Wether the engine is to
strong for the car? Where might be the difficulties exactly?

Here in germany the biggest problem is that you need a exhaust-check
for the car if it is a new car you want to import. We have some
steps,the car has to fullfill!

Hope to read more about that problem!

See you,
