Just noticed posts sent to forum today are no longer coming back to me. Strange. Posts do register at the forum though. Cross fingers it will fix itself.

Affecting anyone else too?

Hi All,

Trying this post again.

So far 8 members have said they are attending VW Nats this coming Sunday, 7 in syncros and Paul in his MB.

Any others? Weather looks nice.

Cheers.

Ken

We might be able to, but given our commitments, cannot come for the day.

If we do come, best we can do is the car park, because I believe that, for attendees, on site is a lockdown for the day.

Most likely we will give the “show Syncro” a run.
Won’t have time to detail it.

Peter

Hi to all attending the VW Nations. I will not to be heading down (from Bris) to visit, but was wondering if anyone will be looking through the swap meet?

I have been chasing a nice pair of middle sliding windows, but to date have had no luck. Sales have either fallen through, or prices have been beyond my budget.

Not sure why they have been difficult to get as many vans have them fitted, but if a nice set was cheap at the show would appreciate some help getting them.

There is a complete van just outside of Bris for $1250 currently, it's almost worth looking at for parts, but a lot of bits on a '85 model will be different, plus I don't have the room currently for yet another VW!!!

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

If you are looking for your syncro for these sliding central windows - dont buy anything earlier than 1986 windows as they changed size then.

I will have a look and ask around for you.

Shipping could be dangerous to Brissy with our dodgy postal service.

Cheers,

Skot

Much appreciated Scott. I knew there was a cross over, but was not sure on the exact year. Yes it's for the Syncro, so needs to be for late models..

That said I have an '82 with fixed glass also, but no idea if/when I will ever get around to that one! :)

Freight hopefully would not be too bad, if I can get it to a branch of the company I work for (Syd or Ncle), can organise freight from there.

Richard

No problem Richard.

I dont think the cost would be too high, but the level of care in transporting fragile glass has failed for some I know in the past.

Delivery people seem to not care....

Cheers,

Skot

Hope this helps,
my 82  2 litre air cooled,  which I bought new, and is now 3.6 Porsche powered,  acquired it’s sliding windows from 89 models.

I have no experience with pre 82 T3s,  but from my experience, I believe the shells are all pretty much the same,
from 82 to 93, and there are a lot of components which are interchangeable.

Obviously there are mechanical, etc., differences between Air and water cooled, as well as between 2 WD and Syncro.

I have been astounded at times when told about VW’s parts bin designs and the degree of interchangeability.

I’d be interested to hear other’s experiences.

Interesting Peter. I'm far from an expert as I have a lot more experience with T2 Kombi's. The same applies though, '73-'79 were very few changes. The differences seemed to be more model to model (eg van compared to kombi, compared to deluxe) rather than year to year.

From the little I have heard, pre ??? ('86 as Scott mentioned) the windows were the same, but the sliding door opening changed, so possibly the difference is only in the door, not the drivers side.

The '85 advertised near to Bris looks like a good parts doner, but mechanically I think it's very different with the 1.9 engine, including EFI etc all being different also. So not a lot of value in parts for the Syncro.

I have two '82 models, but nothing earlier in T3's.

Richard

Hi all,

Window Sizes:

Sliding Door:

1980 to July 1984:  428mm x 1082mm

August 1984 onwards: 428mm x 1052mm

Sliding Window opposite sliding door – all years: 428mm x 1082mm

As you can see the drivers side stayed the same for all years but the sliding door side changed due to the door locking mechanism/sliding door change in mid 1984

Hope this helps someone

Cheers

Hans
Hi Everyone - Have held off committing until now but 90% unlikely has now swung round  to 90% likely. Can't leave Melbourne however until mid day Sat so hopefully if a T5 Trakka turns up around 10pm at the Showgrounds some may still be up and no one will shoot out my tyres. Presume I'll find you round the back as in previous years.
Look forward to seeing some old faces again.
Cheers

Hi Richard,

I have found some windows for you - factory caravelle sliders off a late Caravelle GL.

These are available as a pair - sliding door and central drivers side for $400.00 total.

Apparently they are in great condition.

Let me know if you are still after them.

Cheers,

Skot

That sounds fantastic Skot!  Definitely still after them.

Have come across a few but have either been just one, or in poor condition. That seems to be the going price for them!

If they are in Sydney or Newcastle I can get them shipped up through work

Richard

OK Richard.

They are on the NSW Central Coast at Wamberal.

Where in Sydney is your depot?

Great find Scot. I am after a sliding door one. I have one on the driver’s side that I picked up in England when we were there but would like a matching one on the passenger side. If you hear of one please let me know.

Re crank starter. I will post some pics later today. You should have see the looks on the guy’s faces when we crank started at Wisemans Ferry!!!

Cheers, Peter

No Worries Peter.

Getting one is harder than getting a pair.

They always seem to sell as pairs - kind of like captains chairs.

I will ask him if he has any spare slider singles for you.

I know he had one but it was stuffed with broken glass and bent frame so the drivers side was separate.

It cant hurt to ask. I will let you know.

Cheers,

Skot
