Les,

Make sure that the link does not contain extras .eg. ">"

Sometimes it is better to cut and paste the link into your URL bar and edit out the extra bits.

Phill,

The problems are related to a prior instability of this PC.

I elected to run the Windows Repair function instead of doing a fresh install of the OS, which proved to be a mistake.  Amongst many other things that it comprehensively stuffed, it wiped Internet Explorer 8 entirely and replaced it with IE 6, with the result that none of the bookmarks will open on this PC (but OK on the laptop) and all of the existing File Associations (which also control opening email links), with the result that I can’t open them on the PC.

It is all fixable but I just don’t have the time before the DOTVW.  I have a few things on my plate, including the fact that the Syncro engine is misbehaving.  It is idling too fast after a normal local run, then won’t hot start.  I could really have done without that immediately before the DOTVW!!!!

I don't know about your computer but things to check on your syncro;

Throttle position switch on the throttle body.

Vaccuum leaks.

two recommendations/suggestions -
on the syncro, check the throttle switch, I find them out of whack quite frequently. Can cause your symptoms, or be a factor.

use Mozilla Firefox over Internet Explorer.  Way mo' betta !

Have fun at your event.

for what it may be worth check the temperature sensor for the engine managment system, sounds like a problem that i had in the past, if the resistance values change it affects the idle and fuel mix, motor runs very rich, hard to start and raised rpm on idle and stalls. have fun at the meet sorry i cannot make it.

Hi Reiner,

I use this site for T5 info. http://www.brick- yard.co.uk/ forum/forum15. html . Like most fora you seem to get a high proportion of people talking about things going wrong, but I don't recall gearbox's being a regular issue. Overall, I think the consensus is that the VW, while it has some troubles, is better than pretty much all the contemporary competition. Like all modern vehicles, they are pretty complicated things, and not easy to fix yourself when things go wrong, but I guess that's the price you pay for all the nice amenities.

Maybe it's time to start saving for the new update model. Rumour has it that these will be available with a 7 speed DSG box in combination with 4 motion. Imagine then, a modification for the box with lower gearing overall and an ultra-low 1st gear (and the software set to start in 2nd unless 1st is selected), a suspension lift, big tyres, and some underbody protection. And imagine really hard for the Tattslotto winning numbers.

Hi Scott,

If it included a Trakka conversion I’m sure it would be all of that and more. Still, if VW employed me as an ‘ideas consultant’, I might be able to afford it.

We all need to dream though.

Brian,

You wouldn't accept anything less that a fully optioned Trakka conversion would you?

That's why you needed to upgrade your rear springs - all that bling = $$$ and extra weight.

Cheers,

Scott

While on the subject of T5 conversions these look rather good.

They are planning to bring them to Australia at some point.

I find Internet Explorer 8 is great for anyone with a Windows Live Hotmail address. Integrated into IE8 is Hotmail access directly into a hotmail mailbox with the (configured) click of a button on the browser and no need to login anymore. Just access your mailbox whenever, all day, any day. This has never been available before until IE8. Brilliant for a freeby email account. I believe no other browser can do that.
