Les, I have shelves full of books and manuals on VWs. I have mountains of VW brochures and magazines. I have hundreds of hours of videos, DVDs, 16mm film and factory slides from Volkswagen.

I should know a little bit. :)
Unless the sliding door is on the driver's side, there is no such thing. The cupboards were only made for LHD.

If all ducks waddle and Donald waddles, does that make Donald a duck?

Quack! Not all Westfalias are VW.

T2 RHD Westfalia:

Here's a RHD T1 Westy:

South African RHD T2 Westy:

Isn't this a RHD Syncro Westy?

Apparently, all the T3's I was looking at are conversions. Meaning LHD converted to RHD.
Or RHD Syncro converted with Westy roof.

These were made in Brazil.

No doubt there was a connection with Braslias in the same pile of panels.

That was supposed to say "Brasilias". I think it's time to go nitey-nite. 4:24am here.

My dream is to put the private archives together to make the biggest

Hi Ben,

thanks for this enlightenment. Very good information! With my answer I
only wanted to explain how Volkswagen played with their product names
in different countries.

If seen some photos of this "Hormiga" vehicle last year. A friend of
mine took them on holidays... . Really ugly things ;)

Hamish,

As a matter of interest, the Vanagon name was used only in the US.  In Australia, it was called the Transporter.

Partially corerect, Les. The Japanese got the T3 as "Vanagon" as well.

Hamish,
I don't believe this, I just threw 2 out to the local scrap man, last week, they have been behind the shed for a year!! I didn't think any one would want those nasty heavy rear bars.
Sorry.

All this talk of odd ball buses makes me kick myself again for not taking my camera with me
when going for a walk somewhere on the coast in Turkey (1988) and I came across a twin
engined kombi- one in the front, one where it should be ;-)
An early bay window ute I think it was.

Christoph,

I believe you already have the biggest and powerful archive outside of VW to date.

Christoph,

Speaking of names, please note that the Wikipedia page on the Sakbayan erroneously
defined the breakdown on the name in the original language. For the same reason I did
not immediately notice any errors in Hamish posting, there is no substitute for local
knowledge on these matters in many cases. Trakka, What-ah... I wouldn't have known
any different.

Which brings us to Hamish. He is still looking for a bumper for one of those. =)

Sorry, Hamish. I didn't mean to hijack the thread.

That's what I meant.

I was only refering to T3s.

I knew that, Phill. I was just trying to be disagreeable. Here's hoping that the thread originator
got the parts he wanted.

Hamish,

Do you specifically want a Telecom rear bumper (e.g. for authenticity) or do you want a sturdy towbar?  If it is a sturdy towbar, I might be able to help with a drawing of one that I designed for my own use.  The alternatives at the time were the Telecom bumper or the very expensive (and Heath Robinson-ish) Hayman Rees.

Pics attached.

Les
If you build one like that, extend the bracket to use the third hole as the factory ones do.

Phill,

Thanks for reminding me about that.   It had slipped out of my memory but this has prompted me to find the drawings and amend them to include the foremost hole.

There also needs to be a bit of a cut out on the botton edge.

Get one of our Euro friends to send a picture and measurements.

Phill

I have a 1991 telsta syncro and i really like the telsta bar, it is very versatile and galvanised & strong.

I hope that there is only 1 style of these because they are quite neat.

Yes - i want a telsta bar
