VDO Vaccum actuator

Skot and anyone, whilst pulling my motor and gear box out today,I broke the rear diff lock actuator.Does anyone know if these are available locally?
Hey Ben, I bought one November last year from local dealer Part No 251711822 $91.85 also worth getting a spare roll pin or two n0132942 $0.80c. Buy the way the part wording is "element, throttle control". Lost in translation I guess! Greg E

Ben, I bought a few from VW lately. Let me know if you can’t get one, as I might have a spare.  Hartmut

Ben C,

Hartmut bought a few for those that wanted them just before the Nationals this year. We got a huge $1.85 discount on that price with the bulk deal. I got a bag of mixed lollies with the difference.

Mine was fitted today strangely enough along with a straightened mounting bracket that caused the angled pin causing the thing to get stuck in the locked position. I have been too scared to try it again.

VW still apparently has them in stock - hopefully. Try your nearest Factory VW Parts dealer.

Cheers,

Skot

Skot,

I just like to clarify the ‘Throttle Control Element T2’ price here. I never talked about a ‘bulk deal’ as VAG does not offer those. I simply was happy that there were still some around and a few people were happy to have one as spare. I have the invoice here in front of me and it states as a retail price $ 114.71 unit net $ 86.36 plus GST $ 8.64 Total $ 95.- from memory that’s what you paid me.

VW assured me that this was ‘trade’ (generous) , and this is what I would ask Ben to pay if he needs one. Hartmut

Skot,I had a similar problem the first time I put my gearbox back in when I had it repaired. It got stuck then never happened again.
As a precaution I operate the diff lock once a week now.

Hart,

I was just teasing - not having a go. I had no idea what they were worth anyway - you could have sold it to me for $200.00 and I wouldn't have known any better.

I was more having a go at myself for taking so long to put the new one in.

I really appreciate your help with that purchase - please don't take any offence.

Cheers,

Good advice.

Mine must have fallen over in the back of my wife's hatchback with some of my wild driving in Sydney when I picked up my newly rebuilt locker gearbox. The gearbox was just loose with a couple of rags either side and I don't have eyes in the back of my head so I could watch the gearbox and the road at the same time.

I think that is when the shaft / bracket bent. It seemed to work easily with compressed air but with just the vacuum it went in and got stuck - the corrugations on the Point Plommer Rd probably didn't help either.

Cheers,

Skot

Gday group, yesterday I repaired the diff lock actuator.A few weeks back I snapped the blue plastic pipe. With a right angle drill,I drilled a 4mm hole so that some vacuum hose would push into the actuator where the blue pipe was. Then sealed it all up with araldite.Be careful not to drill to far into the actuator, about 5mm is enough.Saved myself some money.
Also my Bus is now on the road,it is a totally different vehicle.I wouldnt want it any louder though. It sounds like one of those boy-racer Subarus with a 6 inch tail-pipe(mine is only 2 inch)(the tail-pipe that is!!).It took me 12 months of research and 14 full days of work to complete the conversion and I would do it all again.Very satisfying. The ej25 looks like it should of been there from the start.A real factory conversion. One very happy Syncro owner.

Ah the Greek Goddess of adhesion Alaldite (pronounced Araldit-ee the joke sounds better) does come in handy at times. If you do need an actuator Go Westy have them for US $99.95 http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=3700&category_id=386&category_parent_id=

Glad to hear you are happy with the conversion. What did it cost you?

Cheers,

Tom
