Vw GVM dual cab

Greg,

There is a supplier of rebuilt parts in Belgium , Mike Plompen by name.  I will dig up the contact details.  I would not go for solid shaft for a whole load of reasons, safety being chief amongst them.  Too much to explain at the moment; more later.

Les

I couldn't! It comes down to the simple fact that the syncro part is majorly over priced for what it is. The retail was around $350 for two joints from memory. I am about to fit a solid shaft in mine because I refuse to pay $2500 for a VC. Not what I want to do but I am not made of money. You'll be right Scott, just check it for wear when you are under the bus. Plenty of people have done this overseas and I haven't heard of one falling apart.

Thanks Les, Yes I agree that the VC is the way to go. I don't trust that the rebuilt units will last. They are being sold by most of the American suppliers with quite poor feedback.
The solid shaft will work ok for me as after spending 25 years with hypoid oil running up my arms I think I have a far degree of mechanical sympathy and will know when to pull the knob and when not to.
The loss of 4wd on the black top and at the snow will be sorely missed as will its benefits under brakes. Greg

Just found the pricing for the joints all be it five years old. $289+gst each. He eventually sold them to me for $143+gst each. At the time you could not by the cheap shafts from the USA so I bit the bullet. In hind sight instead of spending that dosh on joints I should have had a robust shaft made in Australia for about twice the price. Greg

Mike Plompen just posted a lot of new videos on You Tube that might be of interest.

Some kind of maintenance instructional video. In German but clever old Google are able to translate for you. Click on the settings button bottom right and choose English (or get Hart to translate).

SA advert for the Syncro. Quite amusing.
