VW Spectacular - who will there/freedom camping

Hey Guys,

Following up on Ken’s last mail re. VW Spectacular. I haven’t seen a list who will be there and who wants to go freedom camping. Thought I will start one - hope Ken that’s ok for you.

Arne - freedom camp - Fri. 3rd - Sun./Mon.

Cheers Arne

Hi Arne,

Thanks for your response.

Following on from my original post suggesting a Macksville freecamp, I've been deliberately allowing plenty of time for any more interest in the freecamp to register here for inclusion, before contacting all known participants. It's still two weeks out before arrival at Macksville for most, so any additional participant interest ideally needs to be registered here asap, as I said yesterday. That side of it, about which you ask, is not the issue.

What is concerning is my original post requesting all participants to each take the time to help with identifying suitable freecamp destinations in the Macksville locality. From such a list, the group can then decide where to camp for any particular night. I assume no one knows of any particular suitable sites, as there has been no input at all from known participants to date. I'm sure participants would like to have such a list in advance, similar to the one provided for the Old Bar freecamp.

So there is the dilemma. With no other input to date, leaves us with no identified freecamp sites. So maybe at best we can all arrive with a "best guess" list or else simply get up there and take a punt. Unless others have more ideas how to go about this or, in the remaining time, participants do contribute freecamp destination ideas here for inclusion. By this I mean at least an address or GPS coordinates if an address can't be googled.

Any and all help will be appreciated, helps the freecamp group as a whole. Let the discussion please continue.

If anyone's circumstance has changed since registering as a freecamp participant and can no longer attend, please also advise here asap.

Cheers.

Ken

ALL,

My mistake. Getting too excited!

Actually time remaining before arrival at Macksville for most freecampers is still THREE weeks away, not TWO.

Unless you want to arrive for the start of the VW Spectacular, a week earlier.

Currently I'm aware of five firm plus two possible freecamp registrations. Good size.

Cheers.

Ken,

I would love to join you all in your camping adventure but I have a booking in the showground.

Knowing Donna and with this years event having a major upheaval - anything could happen.

By the time I get there on the Friday, my spot may be gone.

So I might be joining you anyway.

Cheers,

Scott

Ken,

Not sure on the pooch.

I am using solar power now so no need for the power lead.

My brother can test and tag the power leads for 240V power.

But I need him to do it before we go.

Anyway - late decisions can be made if my booked accommodation doesn't work out.

Cheers,

Scott

I imagine I will be in for the freecamp on the Saturday night, may have a girlfriend and/or a dog with me.

There are not many spots in the mackville area, any indication where you plan on camping? Possible spots that I am looking at are well outside Macksville.

Hi Nils,

Noted, your participation.

So my post below to Arne states the current situation ... you did read it? I'm asking help from participants, not the other way round. Ok?

Need help asap with adding sites close to Macksville perimeter in particular. Also if as you say, you have sites anywhere else say between Raleigh in the north through to say Hat Head in the south, then these can be added to the list to offer camping alternatives for not only going to and coming from Macksville, but also for any future travel through this part of the NSW eastern seaboard.

So please, what you do have, send locations to me at unclekenz@hotmail.com for inclusion in the list. It will benefit all in the freecampers group. Ta.

All others, please contribute also asap. Ta.

Cheers.

Hi Ken and anyone else reading,

Still in the process the of googleing all the suggestions you sent. Some of them are well off Macksville. I didn't realise we were looking that far out, otherwise I could probably have thrown a few ideas around. Crazy busy at the moment, I will email if inspiration strikes

Ta.

Cheers.

I assume no one knows of any particular suitable sites, as there has been no input at all from known participants to date.. I'm sure participants would like to have such a list in advance, similar to the one provided for the Old Bar freecamp.

So there is the dilemma. With no other input to date, leaves us with no identified freecamp sites. So maybe at best we can all arrive with a "best guess" list or else simply get up there and take a punt.....

Cheers.

Ken

Finished searching all those sites, Some terrible ones there that's for sure.

It is actually Jane's B'day weekend and it's bad enough she is going to a VW show, I don't think I can subject her to a bad camping experience in the same weekend and live to tell the tale.

Soooo I have booked a site on a private property in Eungai (25km south of macksville)

Having chatted to the owners it looks like they may be happy to have up to 10 people (that's people, not cars) on the campground at $5 a head (with a toilet mind you) So I know a lot of people are against paying for a camp but considering how far away some of the spots suggested are I think that may be false economy in this case.

Sorry if I am stealing your thunder there Ken, I just had to pull the trigger on something solid I'm a pain like that.

A good plan I would suggest on numerous fronts.
I know the area reasonably well and there isn't much in the way of free camp sites.
There is a small camp area SW of Macksville at Taylor's Arm. Could be worth checking for those desperate to save $$$$.
Scott's head is my pick. At the recenty renovated caravan park.

Hi Nils, Peter, ALL,

Yeah I'm impressed and in tune with the topic title .... "freedom camping".

Nils, I'm happy to update the campsite list. Just PM me the Eungai address & co-ordinates details. This will help all freecampers in considering their camping options.

Frankly I'm bemused from statements made below of a misconception as to the raison d'être  of the freecamp group. For those who don't know it, this is not the first such arranged syncro freecamp event. I know most in the present group. I know that the least concern they have in participating is to save $$$$$. So where that thought bubble originated, please explain. I'm sure we all would like to understand.

Cheers.

Ken

Ken,

I would love to join you all in your camping adventure but I have a booking in the showground.

Knowing Donna and with this years event having a major upheaval - anything could happen.

By the time I get there on the Friday, my spot may be gone.

So I might be joining you anyway.

Cheers,

Scott

Actually time remaining before arrival at Macksville for most freecampers is still THREE weeks away, not TWO.

Unless you want to arrive for the start of the VW Spectacular, a week earlier.

Currently I'm aware of five firm plus two possible freecamp registrations. Good size.

Cheers.

Cheers.

Ken

Ta.

Cheers.

Ken,

Not sure on the pooch.

I am using solar power now so no need for the power lead.

My brother can test and tag the power leads for 240V power.

But I need him to do it before we go.

Anyway - late decisions can be made if my booked accommodation doesn't work out.

Cheers,

Scott
