Hi Peter,

It has front and rear lockers, No SA built syncro's were original WBX 6's, they were all done after assembly by Lindsay Saker VW, the Oettinger approved agent here in SA. here is the spec list on the vehicle:

I have a very nice SA only big window 1993 model Syncro for sale. it is a RHD syncro. It is one of only 89 big window syncro's ever built by VW of SA.  It has an Oettinger 3.2i Wbx 6 Motor, 15" mags with spare carrier, completely resprayed in white, Caravelle model with e/m, e/w, c/l, alarm, captains chairs, a/c, pas, 7 seater with rock and roll rear seat, all seats have arm rests,  new decals ,SA lower wide lower grill, smoked  front indicators, new crystal clear tail lights, long diff ratios, will criuse at 150 km/h. completely rust free.  Tyres are cooper AT, 30x9.5 R 15 and are still very good. New battery aswell. Has the SA new padded dash aswell. Has a tow bar too.

Will sell it for 9500-00 GBP( Pounds) ex shipping. But will take it to shipping agent at the coast included in the selling price.

Pete,

VAG produced the T3 in the VW factory South Africa.  When production of the T3 stopped in Europe, SA production continued but with a body update.  The side windows were changed and the lower edge was dropped several inches, hence the 'big window' tag.  They also fitted a 5 cylinder 2.5 engine.  They were confined to SA.  Don't think that there was a Syncro version of this model.

Pete,

Had I read the rest of your email, I would have seen that SA did indeed build Syncros in the big window model.  That's the first confirmation I have had.  I correspond with Stuart from time to time.  He owns a business called The Syncro Hospital and is very well informed.

IIRC, they did build Syncros in South Africa. The big window refers to the larger side windows installed in the later Caravelle models
which to my understanding were only in the ones with 5-cyl. engines. The window themselves were made larger by making the bottom sill lower. The front doors still had the same size windows.

Cheers,
