I pulled up at a set of lights on a slight hill. Had to put it in G to get moving.
Okay, that does sound like they are better if there’s a gear change, which I don’t really want to do. I may just continue to look for good 14" all terrain tyres. Pirelli make some.
I had 215/75x15 on mine and that was OK.
Thanks Phil, I would prefer to go with 15" wheels but without going through the United States it seems there’s not a lot available.
The overall diameter of the 215x70x16 tyre is only 3mm bigger than the tyre that Phill suggests is ok. I don’t think anyone would notice a difference in gearing. 16 inch wheels are suitable for a standard 2.1 as long as you choose a suitable tyre. I run a 235x70x16 and it’s fine. Bit slower accelerating and need to down shift on some hills. The up side is great road holding even in crosswinds. Eddie
I’ve had no issues with my 2.1.
Cheers, Neil. That was a screen shot but I don’t see an address or link to that ad. Appreciate the help though. Is your 2.1 Syncro a camper or a lighter van? It’s just that when Phil mentioned a heavy camper that pretty much describes my van. Especially when we are going away for a trip. And there is a site I’ve used “syncro.org” that runs an article on tyres and wheels and the 16" definitely mentions gear changing to compensate for the wheel size. But if I can connect with this Margaret River set of 15" I’d definitely look at that. Thanks again.
Sorry Harold. That is on gumtree.
Ours is a camper and i rebuilt the inside.
Full cupboards fridge watertank etc.
I found the gearing still very good. We had no issues.
The US models had different gears and a lot more and i believe that they like to fiddle. Hence the talk about gearing.
But I digress.
About 8 years ago I imported a pallet of Mefros from Germany. Worked out quite reasonable but unsure if the chap over there still does this.
Here is the forum thread from back then.
