Thanks everyone for all the feedback.
I have a set of Tiguan wheels (16x6.5 ET33) to go with the tyres.
My Syncro is still with AM Auto in Noosaville, waiting for the GB & diff to come back from Ron Schmidt.
Will be a month minimum before I have it back here in Adelaide & get it through local approvals with the original wheels.
Will let you know how it goes.

By the way with the laws on oversized tyres (maximum 15mm diameter increase for cars & 50mm for 4WD vehicles), do we go by the Syncro 16" 205R16 largest size in the book or the 14" 205R14 OE size? Also, for this purpose is the Syncro classified as a 4WD or AWD (which I think don't qualify for the 50mm). Any ideas?

Bruce.

With 30" tyres add a bit of angle grinding and panel beating up front. Again depends on offset. Eddie

I am planning to fit 225/75R16 Cooper AT3 tyres to my syncro. My calculation for this size is 743.9. Coopers figures are 746.5 for the AT3 & 750 for the ST Maxx. Bridgestone and Yokahama for example list 744, so there is some variation, particularly with AT and MT tyres due to tread depth. On my previous Syncro '97-'02 I ran 215/80R15 (725mm OD) Yokohama SD05 on 6x15 deep well rims on 14" centres with standard WBX without any problems.

The Syncro is built to go offroad so the bigger the better. There is no way I would run smaller than say 700-720 OD. A standard OE size for 4WD utes for many years has been 205R16 (OD 732-736). A good option and a huge range available.

This is a bit clouded but the general regulations allow a percentage increment on the largest OEM option that was available for any particular vehicle.  The 16” Syncro was not a separate model; it was an option on the basic 14” Syncro.  It was a very extensive option but I doubt if any regulating authority would know that, so, as far as they are concerned, 16” wheels were an option and the regulations allow for 10% above that.  (I am a couple of years out of touch with the wording of the regulations.)  The designation of 4WD or AWD is not relevant.

Eddie,

Recent sweeping (and unannounced) changes by Yahoo have caused widespread problems with access.  This is the probable reason.

Long time member Stuart (in Melbourne ) is selling his camper Syncro.

His number is 0419 899 886

I don’t have any details but I know the vehicle and it has been well looked after.
