1990 Caravelle GL Syncro For Sale.

Hi folks,

It is a very sad occasion but we're putting up our bus for sale.

Brief details are as follows:

2.5 litre SOHC Subaru engine with RJES bell housing which uses the Subaru clutch and starter. The engine has done only 13000lms since being fully reconditioned. It has a high sump that gives better than standard ground clearance. The bus is legally registered with the EJ25 engine.

It has an injected LPG system which has new injectors fitted a year ago when the LPG system was serviced.

Over the last 5 years it has had new:
Alternator
Power steering pump
Power steering rack
Urethane bushes throughout the front end
New ball joints (upper and lower)
Outer CV joints and boots to rear
Rear brake shoes, cyclinder, drum and wheel bearings to drivers side in January (passengers side parts are in the shed waiting to be fitted.
I also have new radiator shrouds not fitted and I don't know how many second hand parts in the shed including complete (original) front brakes, speedos

The bus is a UK import so has some features that are rare on Australian Syncros. Factory fitted options are:
Front and rear diff locks
Central locking
Power steering
Electric mirrors
Tinted windows
Air conditioning (European aircraft style ducting)
Intermittent wipers
Rear window wiper/washer
Rear window demister
Metallic silver paint
Opening quarter light windows (one is stuck but I have a replacement)
Rear mattress (for behind the rear seat only)
Captains chairs to the centre row. These were originally on Multivan swivelling seat bases but are now on a Wiltshire double seat base that has two lap sah belts attached. The seat bases are part of the sale.

It has numerous other upgrades including:
Front CV joint protectors
South African front brakes
10mm raising spacers to rear suspension
16" alloy wheels (including spare)
Bull bar
Decoupler
6 lap sash seat belts and 5 child restraint points
Full length roof rack
2 additional (Mercedes) spare wheels

It also has a rear spare tyre rack that needs a (very little) bit of work for it to be fitted.

It has a few spots of body rust. One or two may need attention for it to pass an interstate roadworthy inspection. It also has a few unfinished items from the engine conversion (after 7 years!) The engine protection rails need to be finshed/fitted. The "aircon on" signal needs to be connected to the ECU so as the engine doesn't cut out when the AC is on and you pull up to a stop.

There is a very occasional problem with the LPG system that I haven't yet tried to resolve but will explain to anyone who shows an interest in the bus.

We have owned the bus since September 2001 after we saw it at Vanfest in the UK. With the extra ground clearance, Subie engine and diff locks (which both work) it is an almost unstoppable bus that also cruises with ease on the highway and can overtake from 110 kph very quickly.

The transmission was rebuilt just before we bought the bus and I've changed the oil twice. I've always treated the transmission with respect and it has never given me any problems.

I have had a work provided 4x4 for the last 6 years which we've been able to use to tow our caravan but I'm about to change jobs (and move to WA) so we've had to buy a vehicle that can tow our van.

I will wash it on the weekend and take some photos to send to anyone who wants them but am happy for people to contact me via any of the following means:

08 86253356
0427 252334 (only until Friday 31st May)
andyjohns@internode.on.net

There are numerous shots of it in the photos section of this list.

I'd love to sell this bus to someone in the group and we'd like to make it a quick an easy sale (wouldn't everybody!) so we're asking only $11750 but I would be willing to negotiate if someone from here bought it. The bus is currently in Ceduna, South Australia.

Cheers,

Andy.
That seems super cheap.
Wouldn't the gearbox be worth over $4000 by itself?
Cheers Paul

I agree Paul.

That does seem very cheap.

Actually an amazing bargain. It should sell in a flash at that price.

Cheers,

Skot

I've never seen a tin top syncro sell for over $20k(isn't yours a tin top Andy?). The pop top market is much stronger. It may well be worth more than Andy is asking but I think maybe we should all wait for some good photos before Andy gets visions of grandeur. The hard thing with spending money on an engine conversion is  you won't get back dollar for dollar what you spend. ie. If you spend 10k on a conversion your bus won't sell for 10k more. Greg E

Disagree. For starters this example would be one of the relatively select few of the elite model in Australia. Its a Caravelle GL. As well it's a tintop, its structural integrity most probably remains uncompromised, unlike all those with poptops. And I own a poptop.

Conservative parts value for starters ...
Complete motor: $5000
Locking transaxle: $4000
Locking front diff: $2000
Decoupler: $1000

Just passed the asking price. So throw all the rest in for .... nothing?
I reiterate. A typo.

Ken, you can never arrive at an asking price by adding up individual parts... Problem is, even if I would be interested ( I am very indeed) all of the married or otherwise living in togetherness, have to consider the other party. And that's we're the fun ends..or it would be on its way to Port now.
And the asking price is fair, just very fair if you take into acc that last week a Tristar DOKA  with many more trimmings than mine sold in the UK for lousy £ 5700 . Makes me feel like being robbed.......

Ken, the NEW parts value of any seriously upgraded syncros' components are worth more than its sales value. Would you pay $1000 for a used decoupler? The complete vehicle is only worth what someone will pay for it. In my opinoin not having a pop top cuts out at least 80 percent of the buying market. Then there is a split between those who what subaru and those who don't. This vehicle represents a small section on the syncro buying public. Don't get me wrong if Andy gets 21k for his bus I would be more than happy for him. Greg E

The hard thing with spending money on an engine conversion is  you won't get back dollar for dollar what you spend. ie. If you spend 10k on a conversion your bus won't sell for 10k more. Greg E

Cheers.

Hi folks, It is a very sad occasion but we're putting up our bus for sale. Brief details are as follows: 2.5 litre SOHC Subaru engine with RJES bell housing which uses the Subaru clutch and starter. The engine has done only 13000lms since being fully reconditioned. It has a high sump that gives better than standard ground clearance. The bus is legally registered with the EJ25 engine. It has an injected LPG system which has new injectors fitted a year ago when the LPG system was serviced. Over the last 5 years it has had new: Alternator Power steering pump Power steering rack Urethane bushes throughout the front end New ball joints (upper and lower) Outer CV joints and boots to rear Rear brake shoes, cyclinder, drum and wheel bearings to drivers side in January (passengers side parts are in the shed waiting to be fitted. I also have new radiator shrouds not fitted and I don't know how many second hand parts in the shed including complete (original) front brakes, speedos The bus is a UK import so has some features that are rare on Australian Syncros. Factory fitted options are: Front and rear diff locks Central locking Power steering Electric mirrors Tinted windows Air conditioning (European aircraft style ducting) Intermittent wipers Rear window wiper/washer Rear window demister Metallic silver paint Opening quarter light windows (one is stuck but I have a replacement) Rear mattress (for behind the rear seat only) Captains chairs to the centre row. These were originally on Multivan swivelling seat bases but are now on a Wiltshire double seat base that has two lap sah belts attached. The seat bases are part of the sale. It has numerous other upgrades including: Front CV joint protectors South African front brakes 10mm raising spacers to rear suspension 16" alloy wheels (including spare) Bull bar Decoupler 6 lap sash seat belts and 5 child restraint points Full length roof rack 2 additional (Mercedes) spare wheels It also has a rear spare tyre rack that needs a (very little) bit of work for it to be fitted. I will wash it on the weekend and take some photos to send to anyone who wants them but am happy for people to contact me via any of the following means: 08 86253356 0427 252334 (only until Friday 31st May) mailto:andyjohns%40internode.on.net There are numerous shots of it in the photos section of this list. I'd love to sell this bus to someone in the group and we'd like to make it a quick an easy sale (wouldn't everybody!) so we're asking only $11750 but I would be willing to negotiate if someone from here bought it. The bus is currently in Ceduna, South Australia. Cheers, Andy.
