2009 Fully Sync Tour -January

Hi All,
I am pleased to announce the "Fully Sync Tour 2009" is from SAT 10th
to Friday 16th January. This fits in with school holidays and also
gives people plenty of time before and after to get too and from
Batemans Bay. People can come early and leave later as some people did
in 2007.
I will basically follow the same arrangement for meeting up from the
last trip as it worked very well. Once again meet at Batemans for
people to hit the shops, then we head off around 1500hrs to Shallow
Crossing base camp.
More details wil be provided closer to the time.
I am already looking forward for this trip and catching up with as many
SYNCRO heads as possible. Please fill the poll so I can get an idea for
the number of vans to book for.
Very Best regards
Rick.

Gday Rick, PK and ALL,

To encourage 2007 Tour participants back for the 2009 Tour, it makes sense to me to plan an itinerary that offers "new horizons" and so avoid backtracking over the same or similar tag-along day trips we did in 2007. There are so many other National Parks, SRA's and State Forests out there, a lifetime isn't enough to explore them all even once.

I know it's early days yet, but during the planning stage, I'd ask that Deua National Park be considered as a focus this time around in the itinerary.

I've not been to this Park, but research suggests it has a lot to offer, particularly in scenic features, activities and 4WDing.  The Park is located just south of Batemans Bay, so initial meeting arrangements can still apply. There appear to be a number of suitable camping areas in the Park that can be utilised in a tag-along 4WD tour for easily a number of nights. For those who feel they must have a base camp with hot showers, then Shallow Crossing can still work for them if and when needed. Alternatively, find a closer base camp, say near Moruya etc., or else inside the Park. Much the same sort of flexibility as 2007.

To read up on what Deua NP has to offer, goto: http://www2.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/parks.nsf/ParkContent/N0047?OpenDocument&ParkKey=N0047&Type=Xo

Feedback on this and any other comments you can make now about the 2009 Tour I think would be pretty useful for preliminary planning reasons. Anyone please?

Cheers.

Ken

Hi ALL

This sounds like a good idea. I would love to explore new places as
well. Will do some research and ask around, seek out the rough
stuff!. The week could go something like this. Meet Shallow Xing,
spend a few days testing (trashing?) our machines, head south for an
overnighter (or 2). Then make it up from there, maybe back to base
camp & beyond. Must remember (time of year) that lots of people
around in the popular parks, so limited camping available.

Ken, Rick and all, I think this makes good sense. I’ve info about Deua in a 4WD touring book I have and it looks really good – I’ll try and get a chance to scan the pages and post them in the next few days. We’ll be in either way I suspect but I do like the idea of exploring a different area.

Cheers Murray

Gday PK and ALL,

"seek out the rough stuff" you say .... mmmmm .... I can picture PK
drooling as I type this ... haha

which reminds me ... I more closely re-checked the air filter yesterday,
the NEW one I'd installed before the Tour 2007. The filter paper looked
pristine from the outside, so just for interests sake, I changed my
vacuum cleaner hose to "blow" rather than suck and ran the air through
the filter paper from the inside. Disaster! Plumes of dust!!!! So much
for the low klm air filter!!

so I suggest 2007 participants recheck the air filter, even if it's
still low klm. It can be deceptive.

PK, on Tour 2009, in tag-along mode, you get to lead the group ....
BEHIND ME!!!! hahaha

Cheers.

Gday Murray, we probably have the same 4WD book. Scans of Deua could
probably be emailed direct to interested members.

Heh Murray, I'm thinking we need to test out your new VC and new tyres
in reverse up a 60 degree slope offroad, ok? .... haha

Cheers.

We could Ken, but I wouldn’t want to get too far ahead of you – stuck down there with the fixed shaft and all… you know, you may not make some of those hills ;- )   Seriously though I will be keen to see how things go re my bus. I know one thing, I didn’t have a working VC prior to this, I can really feel the difference now when parking and the like.  I’ve put Coopers ATR 205 / 70 15s on and the bonus is the spare still fits in the spare wheel tray – and they are super quite to boot, much less noise than my old Bridgestone radials.

Hi Murray et al - I'm also in favour of exploring further....

I'd even be keen to explore some High Country as well at some point (not necessarily this trip)

Mark.
