25 years Syncro - Interested in special display at Nationals?

Ken made a good point about the 25 years of Syncro.

I am happy to talk to the organisers at the Club VW know about the 25 years of Syncro if there is sufficient interesting in putting together perhaps a display similar to Melbourne.

Please let me know if you think you could bring your Syncro to the Nationals and if a good response I will put it to the Club.

Mark.

VW 2010 Nationals in Sydney 23/05/2010. I bet the organisers have absolutely no idea the syncro celebrates 25 years this year.
Sackville meet last year was held the weekend before the Nationals.
So leaving a meet till after April, probably there is no need to pay/pre-book anywhere, its moving toward the chillier time of year .. low season, even more so out of school holidays. Also means if the weather turns foul on the selected weekend, easier to cancel and re-schedule.
Valla VW Spectacular 29/07/2010 - 02/08/2010
Old Bar VW Show/record attempt - Long weekend 02-04/10/2010.

A reminder that after the successful May 2009 Sackville weekend magfest at my rellos place, I also reconnoitered and then offered to lead a syncro 4WD tagalong/2 night camping tour to Yengo National Park for last September. Only one member put his hand up, including none from Sydney. Interesting. A bad year perhaps? I guess it could be an option again at some future time when the stars line up for NSW /Sydney members. Or perhaps they can only manage a day outing, especially for working families.

Cheers.

Mark,

I am always happy to bring mine.

It seems that you, Murray and myself seem to be the only syncros that ever attend unless someone is trying to sell their syncro.

Speaking of which I think there is one on Ebay at the moment.

Cheers,

Scott

Mark,
Four years ago I attended the VW Nationals for the first time. Regardless that I had no wish to enter the display competition, the organisers happily allowed me to enter the pavilion as part of the static display undercover. This worked well enough, meaning the syncros could be parked reasonably close together. It was great and we made ourselves available to passing enquirers and we had our gabfest.

Last year I went and was denied entry (other syncros also) by the organisers, meaning the rules had changed so syncro representation was next to non existant with the exception of Scott and yourself, the trick being to shell out to enter the competition and so gain entry into the hallowed space. Lets face facts, there are squillions of beetles and splitties and bays so they are well represented anyway. Surely there would be enough interest from VW enthusiasts who would welcome seeing a grouped display of this unique vehicle, especially timed for 25 years, many attendees probably still have no idea it exists. It's usually the case the organisers need to become aware of its existence as well and its inclusion into the hallowed space, allocating room in there on the day.

I enjoyed the inclusivity of my first VW Nationals, being barred last year reminded me of VAGs attitude to T3s. I'd consider attending again, if the organisers got up to speed. Probably that might be the deal maker for new blood attending as well.

Cheers.

Ken,

We had the same problem in Victoria until Brian became a VP of the VW Club of Victoria .  Working from within, he created a Syncro section for the annual DOTVW and we have been able to assemble as a Syncro group.  It might need the same approach in NSW to achieve the same results.  Mark has offered to do this and this is probably the only way that it will happen.

Phill,
Haha, I see you have no faith whatever in Mark and Maxs ability to beat 2010 Nationals organisers into submission.

Be that as it may and failing all else and so we all know, to get a syncro group assembled outside the gate early (as they suggest doing on their website at: http://www.clubvw.org.au/ ) and then enter the hallowed space together so we all end up together, preferably undercover and say for example, located at the back where Ric usually parks his syncro, how do their entry fees work? Is the $15 car show category fee or the $20 swap meet fee additional to the $10 pedestrian entry fee or do either of those fees displace the pedestrian fee? It's somewhat ambiguous on their website. So lookers would pay $10 entry, car showers $15 or $25 and swap meeters either $20 or $30, depending upon how they charge. Anyone know?

Cheers.

Australia's #1 job site If it exists, you'll find it on SEEK.
Ken,

The premium will be $5.

As I understand it there is:

- a pedestrian entry fee of $10.
- Car Show Entry fee of $15 per category. Max 2 categories.

Speaking with the organisers just recently, it was confirmed to me that the entry to the car show included the entry of the driver of the displayed vehicle.

Therefore, to assemble the Syncros together with the Car Display area would attract a 'premium' of $5.

Mark.

PS - As a comparison, entry to Show'n'Shine in Victoria is $20, including driver and passenger. So for those travelling solo, they are $5 worse off, and for those travelling as a pair/couple, $5 better off.

Australia's #1 job site If it exists, you'll find it on SEEK.

Mark,
Ok thanks for that. Now if the National webmaster could set out charges unambiguously i.e., either/or and no room for questioning re cumulative, that'd be really useful. So it's a steal @ $15 a syncro/driver combo plus $10 for a passenger.

This entry "workaround" then looks quite doable for linking up on the day. Just need to all be there at a pre-determined a.m. timeslot to facilate group entry through the gate. Confirming asap numbers participating would really help a lot with planning.

Any chance Mark, once numbers involved firm up, the Nationals organisers might temporarily tape off an area up to say 9.30 - 10am, say out the back where Ric parks? Either a line of syncros along that rear isle or the other thought is a square area again out the back near Ric but the next back to back isle in, then syncros would be more closely contained in a square formation and that may facilitate placement of a syncro 25 years themed display/promo. Isn't Ric involved with this VW Nationals show setup, he can perhaps help with facilitation "internally"?

Just as it was for me 4 years ago, attending this 2010 VW show presents as an excellent opportunity for older/newer list members to link up, especially worthwhile for all the newer list members located in and around the Sydney region, perhaps attending the Nationals for the first time.

Cheers.
Ken

Hi Ken

Good ideas ref taping off area etc.

I have put the idea to the Club - I have had a VERY positive response from 1 of the 3 or 4 key people, and he has encouraged the others to back that idea. So we'll see what turns up over the next 24 hours.

It has been suggested so far, as you suggest, to park just outside the undercover area in a large group, which is I think where you think Rick parks. Might have to look at a Google Map / Image of the site to pinpoint.

I've made a custom map - http://bit.ly/cLOR01

Is this right?

Mark.

Cheers.
Ken

Doubtful that it will happen without paying the cash.
We will just have enter the show or swap meet.

Mark,
No not even close. I assumed you knew EXACTLY where Ric always parks AND undercover ... as I said ... out the back (of the building). This is out of the sun, handy to the display action, swap sites and right next to the p.m. award presentations.

See the attached pic. So either tape off a northerly heading portion of the rear-most single row parking starting from Rics car OR else directly inwards from Rics car, tape off a square formation from the adjacent double row parking.

Clear as mud?

I've made a custom map - http://bit.ly/ cLOR01

Is this right?

Mark.
