2WD to SYNCRO conversion

Does anyone have experience with the conversion from 2WD to SYNCRO?

Tom

Tom,

Have a run through the smallcar conversion system for this issue.

May give you all your info?

Never done it myself or heard of anyone doing it - I just decided to but a 2wd caravelle and keep my camper syncro. Much cheaper....

Cheers,

Skot

Paul Rayner in Woodburn, NSW converted a 2wd trakka with a 3.3l subi motor to
4wd with a H-6 3l subi motor on motec fuel injection running 16inch wheels.
He took parts from 2 Syncro Telecom panel vans.
He is a professional (genius) fabricator, it's not a job for the faint hearted.
especially the tank swap.
The remaining Syncro parts were procured by Janian at Stokers Siding VW parts which has moved/merged with byron mechanical in the industrial estate.
My suggestion for what its worth is don't do it.
Syncro's are just not valuable enough to justify it.
He really struggled to sell the completed van, which is a shame because its probably one of the most capable Trakkas out there.

Tom,

It is a very long, very expensive and very costly process and the end result is not quite a Syncro.  It is important to start when you are young enough to be reasonably sure that you live long enough to finish the project.

I think it is a question of where your skills lie and what you have to pay people to do. If I where in Toms shoes I would buy a 2wd weld on all the syncro bits up front and sort the fuel filler and then r+r all the bits. If you payed someone to do all that the thing would owe you more than it was worth. If you are coming to the Dotvw Tom we could have a chat about what is involved.
