A VW Legend

Just had a very enjoyable dinner here in Yamba with Graham Lees (formerly of Brookvale Spares) and others. Graham and I talked VWs at length. Dropping in to see him tomorrow so he can give the Syncro a once over (even though it does not have a starter switch at present). He has done some amazing conversions and as we talked I realized he has owned quite a few VWs including Scotts. He also put a V8 into a type 2. He would love to know where that one lives these days. He still owns 20 VWs of various types including a 1985 ambulance and a 181.

Regards to all, Peter
Peter,
I believe the previous owner of a VW mechanical repairs business here on the Central Coast owned a T2 with a Leyland P76 V8 motor onboard. Bit novel. This be the one?
Cheers.

Peter/ Ken,

Graham Lees definitely did own mine many years back (getting close to 20 years now) but the guy on the Central Coast who owned the Bay camper was Mike ..... cant remember his last name.He now lives in QLD on the Gold Coast area I understand.

I had a ride in his V8 powered beast which kept stalling and just wouldn't seem to idle. There is a few of them around including an excellent 71 model dual cab bay with a V8 and a tilt tray back to allow access to the motor. The tray tilted to the side - not the back as normal.

I think I saw that Ambulance @ Darling Harbour 60 years of the kombi display a few months back - just after Jessica Watson came into Sydney Heads from her round trip.

S/K  I can remember that the engine in that Bay was midmounted, it was incredibly noisy, and it was not a camper then. Can’t remember the suspension arrangement but think it to be leaf. I better give Graham a ring and find out. Btw he now lives at Yamba and owns / operates 4 Motels there with his family.

When going North, always a recommended stopover. Hart
