parts #
025 199 913
025 199 915
Has anyone purchased these recently or know where I might get them?
Or perhaps I have the wrong part #.

Hello
Just wondering if anyone has a pair of alternator belt guards kicking around they don,t need and are willing to sell to me. These appear to be no longer available.

I always believed it was to stop small stones landing on the belt and shredding it as it met the pulleys. Someone in Sydney who wrote up their round Australia trip a few years back complained about it being a constant problem. I have also read that its there to clear snow in extreme conditions ie stop a build up of snow freezing when parked overnight and tearing the belt apart on start up. Feel that hasn't been the major worry for most Australian owners.
Greg if all else fails you would be welcome to come and see mine as I don't think it would be too hard for someone like yourself to fabricate one.
I do agree that changing the belt whilst the engine is running and wearing a loose hanging tie can lead to breathing difficulties and "digiwent" hands
Cheers

Greg,
I have a loose one (don’t ask!!) here somewhere. If I can locate it, I will post a pic so that everyone knows what we are talking about. I had a quick look in Bentleys but can’t see it. If it is a VAG accessory, Phill will probably know where to locate it.
Scott,
It fits at the point where the alternator belt feeds on to the crankshaft pulley. It only needs a small stone to derail the belt and slightly bigger one to destroy it.

Re: alternator belt guards
They are not that type of guard Scott. They stop stones getting caught in the "V" of the pulley. They were part of the australian option m code I think. So I guess all the latter ones in OZ had them. Not fitted to USA models I would imagine, otherwise you would have seen them. Greg E

That should have read option.

When I find mine, I will make a drawing of it and put it in the files. It would be simple to make. I would be reluctant to go on an off-road tour with out it; it doesn’t need much of a stone to destroy a belt.
