I can't see photo's in Yahoo again... Can you email?

Cheers

How's the new motor going?

New motor? Peter didn't you install a Bostig?

Yes, just seeing how it's going :)

RIchard

Hi Mark,

Yes I did install a Bostig kit, 8000km on and not one issue so very happy.

However I still need to change my R&P back to 5.43. When I order my Gowesty gearbox I didn't realise I needed to select R&P ratios so they sent me the USA standard of 4.86.

Always something and usually my fault.

Cheers

Peter

Hmmm. What is it like with 4.86? Any idea why we got 5.43 in Australia?
I am about to overhaul front and rear (and add difflocks when I find the parts)

I decided to stick with WBX. Engine going together now. I've used DJ pistons so 10:1 compression. Might install 1:1.25 rockers, and definitely installing MicroSquirt ECU.
I think I'll get about 130hp.

My thoughts are that the USA had the 90kw without catalytic converter and could deal with a taller ratio.

Australia go the $70kw with catalytic converter.

I’m sure we’ve opened a can of worms.

Please chime in with your thoughts everybody

USA had exactly the same engine as Australia. (MV) All USA engines have had catalytic convertors since since the early 1970s.

We had a lower diff ratio because we had taller tyres. The US had 205/70x14.
Peter. I’ll take both

So if the USA had 205/70/14 tyres and we had 185RC14 tyres, which is either 80 profile or 82 profile I'm not sure so I've looked up the variance for both.

185/80/14 = circumference of 2047mm
205/70/14 = circumference of 2019mm decrease of 1.4%

185/82/14 = circumference of 2070mm
205/70/14 = circumference of 2047mm decrease of 2.5%

If the Aussie tyres were 85 or 90 profile the decrease would be 4% & 7% respectively

The differnce between a 5.43 and a 4.86 is 11.7%

Hmmm.

Gone to Mark.

thanks

Hi Mark, I have the 4.86 and a DJ motor.

It's much nicer on the highway than friends with 5.43 ratios, but of course the crawler is not quite as low.

At 100KM/H the tacho spins about 3300-3400rpm. 3900ish at 110km.

The DJ happily will haul at 110km all day, but is cheaper at 100km.
I too am looking at going aftermarket injection to grab a few more torques and horses

I have 235/65 17 tyres which I think are a little big and will down size when they wear out.
Generally I feel this combo is much nicer to drive than the aussie ratios, UNLESS you spend all your time under 95km.
