amarok

Hey all, just wondering if anyone has had a test drive of the Amarok.
I see that Mcgraths at Kirrawee have a white one out the front.I will go and check it out on the weekend.

Hi Ben,

I went to the preview at Bayford's Epping. Story was, the preview vehicles were not Australian complianced, thus not available for test drives. It is probably one of those that you've seen. Still worth a look though. Drivable stock is said to be only a few weeks away.

There's lots more info and opinion here;  http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f130/

Hi Guys,

When my last post to Ben came back to me (as they do), I noticed 2 image files attached. I didn't attach them, so I'd suggest not opening them. I have a new PC which is still settling down, so may be nothing. Should all be virus checked by my AVG.

Thanks Brian, from most reports looks like a great vehicle.I am very interested in the Amarok, long live all Syncros, but it would be great to see this dual cab VW compete against the likes of the Japanese brand 4WD's for decades.I hope it is not just a 'fad' for VW.They do some strange things.

Took a look at an amarok display model with my sister last weekend. They're a very nice looking pickup for sure. Classy on the outside and very roomy inside. It is, however a very large car as the dealer described it as vw's  f150. We looked at a triton later and she felt much more comfortable in that. One thing i really didn't like on the amarok was having the 4x4/diff lock buttons on the center console near the cup holders. Does this mean a spilled drink or other would short out the switches and render your 4x4 useless? The 2l engine is a seriously complex beast when you pop the hood and i can see the small 2l capacity being a tough selling point for the go for a big, simple, reliable engine mindset many tradies employ. If the amarok was designed to compete head to head with the other jap 4x4s I think an easy decision can be made by the potential buyer as they are worlds apart from an engineering, appearance, practicality stand point.

Erik,I guess time will tell.
Price will play the biggest part.I see this as VW's biggest killer in this country.

They're made in South America. VW version of the Great Wall.

At 3 times the price......

Bruce

Hi Phill,

I hear similar sightings (of registered vehicles) on VW Watercooled. Some say they are VWA  staff vehicles from the nearby headquarters. I'm sure the dealerships would have been offering (maybe short) test drives if it had been possible.

Brian.

Yes Brian, I think the guy around the corner works for a VW dealer. I have seen most VWs about 2 months before they go on sale as he brings them home.
