Anne Beadell Hwy Trip

Here a few pick from the Anne Beadell trip my syncro was just on.   My parent took my syncro as I was stuck at work.  Alll up there was 2 syncro's one T3 2wd, two other 4wd and about 4 early kombi's.  They tell be they had lost of fun and had very few issues apart from corication related stuff.  anything plastic that could brake did, even the headlights broke loose.  the door broke a catch and the suspension bushes are now being totally replaced as there was about 5 mm moment in the upper control arm. The interesting thing was the two syncros broke there rad. fan brackets but the 2wd didn't.  I guess the extra weight of the syncro fan was just to much. anyone come across this before?  Anyway I will post a full list of the damage and how we upgrade stuff as I get a change.  P.S. you have to love race tape.

Cheers,

Michael,

Sounds like a great trip.

Any more photos - or a link to a photobucket site?

Love these off-road kombi adventures.

Looks like a good place to install some strengthening before heading off on long corrugated roads.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Michael.   Thats my old girl Miss Evie which I sold to a young muso chap from around Thornbury or somewhere nearby in Melbs northern suburbs about 4 years ago. What happened to the passenger side door? When I brought her from Fowles Auction group she was an ex Telstra van with a central console A/C and a massive bullbar that needed 4 blokes to lift off. As can be imagined she was extremely top heavy. So had an alloy one to replace. Had the fourth gear rebuilt by Lloyd as well as a new starter motor after fording the Barwon river but apart from that not much trouble. How is she travelling and how many K's. I sold her with about 265k's. Give my regards to the old girl. Much loved and missed.

Regards

Michael

Hi Michael,
She still running well, as for the doors I had a small accident with a car hoist and an over hanging stairway.  as I lifted the car the door swaging open and I crushed it.  The side door is just the common old catch giving up the ghost, it seems to happen with a lot of uses.  I still have the Bull bar but I have been stripping all unnecessary weight of the van to improve it over the rough country.  The dash had been customize to include tacho oil pressure and temp gauges also now sporting rear locker.  New LSD locker to go in the rear and move the locker to the front, also a decoupler.  Engine been replace as the muso had an issues with it but I have now put it on gas increasing the range by 600 km.  215 80 15" all round with two spares mounted in side beside the LPG tank to keep the weight central and low.  I have remove the central A/C unit as it blocked access to the back and I have one out of my Canadian T3 2wd that I brought back that I will install. also put rear sliding window in it.  Not the prettiest syncro out there but I'm certainly trying to get some use out of it.

Cheers,

Hey careful what you say there Michael about not being the prettiest. She does have feelings you know. IF you think that bull bar was heavy, as I said the original Telstra one was 3 times heavier.  Did you take out all the cupboards that I built to fit in your gas tank? How did you fit this new locker. Are you happy with the gas conversion?  I took that girl up Gulaga near Narooma once along a v steep fire trail. You should have seen the look on the bushwalkers coming down the track, Sheer astonishment. Now she's got diff locks? Wow.
Love to see some interiors of the old girl, I'll  attach some pics for you when she was a bit more youthful.

Michael,

The pic showing the right front view shows what appears to be a manufacturer’s sticker on the bull bar.  It would be interesting to know who it is.

Can't really help you there Les. I feel it might have been ARB  but not positive. Michael Roberts would be best to ask. Interesting to note that the two owners of this syncro share the same initials and Christian name.

Hi,
The bar was made by Ausbar Melbourne there based in Clayton.  It's a nice bull bar I will probably put it on the Caravel.
