How hard would it be to convert from left to right hand drive? Has it been done?

Some nice Syncros on the German E-bay.

It also depends on year model. I think that they would have to be pre '89 (?) to register in Australia.

Vanfest England 2006
Hi Martin

Very nice to look at something that is only 1 of 30-odd in the world. Note that Mike Plompen also has a Pritsche 16 available - can't be that often two are available at the same time.

Mark.

Phill's pal Shaun (from San Francisco, CA) took a RHD Syncro Tristar and converted it to LHD. Obviously, the opposite direction
can be done as well. It was not a trivial conversion unless you are good at sheetmetal welding. IIRC, he took the entire front floor
off a LHD to transplant into the RHD vehicle.

That's not necessary as RHD vans have all the bits for LHD.

Even if you converted it, you probably could not register it. We have very strict regulations about importing cars. Especially if they were sold here.

Thanks Ben T……I can see it would be a fair job and not easy . I looked at my T3 and it seems the steering bits could just be turned around .

Is there a real shortage of Syncros and T3’s in Australia?

I don't think there were many, if any, Pritsche (Single Cab) Syncros in Australia.

Phill - did you once mention to me that there may have been 6 RHD Syncro Single Cabs in Oz, and in fact collected by someone on the Central Coast? Or is that my mind playing tricks.

Yes, I have been told of 6.

A guy named Keith has had one since new.

I have driven one with twin diff locks back in '89 or '90.

I don't know where the others are.

Hi Phill,

the owner has two single cabs in the same color, one original 16“ and one converted 14“. I think the one on your picture is the converted one.
