Arm Rests - for your Caravelle

Mark,

I think you needed two adjustable arm rests for your syncro.

Try this guy:

I bought mine from him and got exactly what I expected.

This is your best chance to get these - you really don't see them in Australia.

Hence if you two exactly this might be your answer.

Cheers,

Scott

VW Nationals Attendees

I've attached a PDF and Word DOC version of a suggested template that might help improve the interest of our display this weekend.

It is always nice to read a little bit about the vehicle and point out interesting items about the vehicle.

The documents are also here for those who do not receive via Yahoo:

It is also visible here for those who do not have Word or PDF

Scott

Thanks for thinking of me - I just bought 2 from him - and am missing the small tubular mounts! <grr> - the picture there shows them. I only discovered this just this week when going to fit them.

I'll have to chase it up with him

Mark.

Mark,

Are you showing any DVDs at the Nationals?

Scott,

It seems you are answering a question from Mark from another thread. Or maybe you are. I have not followed this closely.

At any rate, regarding adjustable armrests. They are quite common here in the US. With the exception of some 1990-91 models, the rest of the T3 (Vanagon) line sold in the US after late 1987-91 came with the adjustable armrests.

There is a vendor on eBay.com (US eBay) who posts these for sale on a regular basis for US$24.95 each. That should save you US$20 on a pair compared to the Samba items in your example.

A word of caution, these armrests came in different colours and materials. For 1987 only, they came in a tan velour. All the other available years got them in a variation of grey. Most are in velour though some can be found in a tweed sort of material.

I am a bit curious how you added these to your seats. You already have am existing armrest which is non-adjustable? Otherwise, how did you add the pivots?

BenT

Ben,

I don't actually need one anymore - I have sourced my missing one and am happy with its installation.

For some reason one of mine went missing in action prior to me purchasing the van. Took me about 12 years to find one to replace it.

Fortunately I had all the hardware in the seat ready to go.

Mark for some reason had two missing , he has the fixing points but not the swivel arm.

These shouldn't be too hard to get. They are a bitch to fit though.

Thanks for the heads up Ben. Others may need the services of the vendors you suggested.

Cheers,

Scott

No worries, Scott. I've never thought replacing armrests was difficult.

To remove:

1) Push upholstery away with a suitable flat blade. (not sure what putty knives are called in OZ)

2) Drive the roll pin out with a drift or other removal tool.

Installation is just the opposite. Said operation should not take more than a few minutes.

Any years ago, mistakenly thought the adjuster nut had to come out. If you unscrew that from the nut inside the arm, you will know what a PITA really means. Short of cutting the upholstery open, it's nearly impossible to re-engage the nut which rides loosely in the adjuster rail.

Cheers,

BenT

Ben,

I found they are extremely easy to remove but a real cow to get back in the first go. Once you have the tools and the technique worked out - it takes - as you said - a couple of minutes.

Cheers,

Scott
