Campbell,
Now I have baby #2 I have some experience with this. However, I have
a bed/seat or rock'n'roll bed mounted just in front of the engine
compartment which in a T3 is way back from the drivers seat. As our
vehicles are rather noisy - I have trouble hearing my 4 year old
daughter to the point where we take a monitor to ensure we can hear
her (asking to go to the toilet).
We have the usual lap sash side mounted seat belts and central lap
belt (All RTA approved) and we have the baby mounted centrally with
my 4 year old in a booster seat next to her - she can stick the
dummy back in for us without needing to pull over.
The baby seat is buckled up to a bar that runs across the back of
the vehicle bolted through the inner side of the upper vents at the
back of the vehicle - again all RTA approved.
This also works well as everything slides in underneath without
sitting on the harness strap.
Other than that there are brackets welded to the floor of the back
of the vehicle over the engine bay that can take child restraints
yet I am unsure about more central holes in the floor as I have a
custom made vinyl covered plywood floor over it.
Andy has the Caravelle with all seats in place and may know a better
place for the central mounted seat rather than my rear mounted seat
situation.
Good luck with the impending birth. The baby bonus will help pay for
various additions to the car - at the moment it is $4,200.00 and
rumoured to be raised to $5K by July 08. The child will cost you
much more than that judging by my experience.
Cheers,
Scott
