Bash plate spare wheel carrier

Just bought a 90 camper syncro with 14" wheels.I have put on 15" merc
rims with bigger tyres but now the spare is too big to fit in the
front.I have seen a modified bash plate for 15" wheels but I will be
losing clearance.Seen a couple of syncros with 16" wheels and they all
keep the spares on the back or inside.Any ideas?
Also has any on modified a landcruiser spare wheel carrier for the
rear of a syncro (FJ40 type)
one solution is offered here (spare wheel carrier for the back):

Southernvan,
nice to see you have joined us.
We're a smaller community than exists on AussieVeedubbers but no less
keen on our busses!
Next week I hope to have the local steel fabricator starting a
prototype of a carrier for mounting spares on the rear of the Syncro.
I believe many people a very happy with the carriers they have bought
from Bernd Jaeger in Germany but I would prefer to not have to attach
the carrier to the rear door in any way and mine will be built to not
do this. It will still involve drilling in to the body however.
Let me know if you're interestd and I'll send you some photos,
Regards,
Andy (type2nut)

Andy, if you can send me pics or post them here of the spare wheel
carrier that would be good.I was about to go to the 4x4 wreckers and
alter one to fit onto the telstra rear step.A friend needs one as
well on his syncro.Given up on modifying the bash plate, have to
think of somthing else to put in there.
Chris
