I need to replace my battery on my '89 Syncro. I have a VARTA E38 which fits nicely in the compartment under the seat but can’t get one off the shelf here in Adelaide. Any suggestions which battery with similar capacity that would fit would be greatly appreciated. The E38 has CCA of 750, Ah of 74.
Thanks
Peter
Hi Peter.
For some years my previous mechanic supplied me with the DN 66 Power Crank 666CCA batteries…but I’ve just looked them up and don’t seem to be available. But they did fit under the seat.
But a year ago I swapped to Lithium (starter and auxiliary). So much lighter, and they’re supposed to last a long time…but more money.
Hope this helps.
Gerald.
Hi Gerald. Did you consider the risk if there ever was a fire (heaven forbid!!!) I heard a rumour that if lithium burns you can’t put it out. Are the batteries the right size to go under the seats? Peter from Port.
Peter, no I hadn’t heard that…mmm.
My starter lithium fits easily under the driver’s seat.
But the auxiliary lithium doesn’t…so it sits in front of the firewall on the driver’s side.
Gerald.
Certainly something to consider, but if a fire has engulfed the van enough to burn the battery, it’s probably a goner anyway.
Hi Peter from Port,
Just interested to know whether you bought a new replacement starting battery from Peter at Battery Value in Brisbane, perhaps the same one I bought from him … the Banner Running Bull AGM 70AH 750 CCA Dual Purpose. (made in Austria). Cheers.
Hi Ken. I did buy one but it was for a house battery. 80 AH. Euro design but we had to shave a bit of the outside for it to fit behind passenger seat. It is one designed for a car with stop start feature. He said it would be good as a house battery. Has worked fine so far. Peter
