Bay Prototype Syncro in Camper and Bus March 2011 edition

Hi all,

Just noticed my copy of March Camper & Bus has an article on the 79 model syncro bay test bus which had a similar system to our yet usinga torque converter as opposed to a VC and a selectable 4wd system with a lever on the floor.

It has chassis strengthening and a separate cradle for the 4wd compnenets and some skid plates but is otherwise a stadard bay westfalia pop-top camper.

It is still alive and kicking somewhere in Germany.

Amazing.

Very interesting story.

Worth buying the mag just for that.

Cheers,

Skot

Thanks for the tip Skot.Since its a few months old, rekon it will still be in newsagents?Maybe you could send it as an email?

I have a history, written by Simon Holloway, on another computer that includes information on the first prototype Syncro that was based on a T2.

Hang on, I have just found it on the 80/90 website:

http://www.syncronauts.org.uk/syncro-technical/syncro-history/the-syncro-story

Well worth a read.

Scanned it in hi resolution and sent it through then got it returned as it was too large.

I will try again on lower res.

learnt a lot from that site and found my Tristar -- woohoo !! also  Syncro in Flight , that was Graham Lees'es which now lives in Perth. From all that

airborness  it had developed cracks in the body above the front doors.  That's why i did not buy it when i had the option....sillly me !

Good one Les !           Hartmut

I tried scanning it again at lower resolution but that only brought it down to 4.8Mb which again is too large to get through the Yahoo server.

Oh well at least Les's link had basically the same story.

The one from the magazine just had one of the actual prototypes that was Owned by a VW engineer still on the road and being driven regularly - although it did have the "old-timer" logo on it same as the first production syncro I scanned previously from Camper & Commercial.

I will bring the mag to the Nationals with me so all there can have a read.

Cheers,

Skot
