brake upgrade

Hey Guys has anyone had any experience with this product and what did it cost for the disc and caliper and other options that can help stop the syncro a bit better.

VOLKSWAGON VW T3 SYNCRO 4WD BREMBO CALIPER ADAPTERS TO PORSCHE 996 BRAKES

I have no experience with this kit, but have been interested in the go westy one. Their previous one also looked OK using Audi parts.

I certainly have not been impressed with the braking performance of the Syncro.

Does anyone do a disc brake upgrade for the rear?

Richard,

John Sherman does the rear disc brake system in Australia as does Small Car Performance in the US.

Problem always seems to be the handbrake performance - the van will stop well but may not stay there on a slope.

Lots have done front brake upgrades to good effect.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Richard , Scot is spot on, I changed mine , 15 yrs ago, to Audi on all four it involves in most cases bigger rims , min 15", also new Golf cables and really, you should invest in a larger booster too....
Recently I read about a new Seikel Off-road T5 , in this one they reverted the rears back to drums for stopping ability on slopes .

Thanks for the replies,

The only issue I have with the rear is holding mud/sand, where the discs self clean well. So seems funny they would revert back. I'm sure Seikel have done a lot of research into it! I know there have been a lot of kits for T2's to put discs on the rear which are not that different.

Too many upgrades, not enough time :)

I've tried a couple of front brake solutions. The best option is the twin caliper Audi based kit from smallcar.
The Gowesty single caliper kit is not a good solution. In either case you need to check for rim clearance.
Leave the back drums as is for handbrake purposes. Stopping power will be just fine.

Paul Muller does one with T4 brake components

Gday Pete,

I've run these Audi brakes for about 8 years now on a standard master cylinder. Pedal feel and performance is spot on.
The Gowesty single piston setup is too soft under pedal but they have an upgrade coming soon so the beast should be up to speed ( or down to speed depending on how you look at it )
Subaru update : did some serious rock crawling a week back and it's better than standard.
This is where I ended up.
Cheers from the west.

Good resource on fitting Audi callipers.

Anyone used it?
