buzzing
Hi there,
Our Syncro has developed a 'buzzing' noise, which appears to be emanating from within the dashboard (?). It happens intermittently while driving along at speed and sounds like a mini-swarm of angry bees. Anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this? It made for rather an annoying soundtrack over the Easter weekend.
Thanks,
Francesca.

Yours may be different of course. Before the above solution i used to give it a bit of a thump and the buzzing would stop. There are a few relays in there, could it be one of those? More serious obviously if the latter.GaryOn 06/04/2010, at 5:27 PM, Francesca Coles wrote:Hi there,

If the oil pressure is low, the buzzer operates over 2000 rpm.
This could be serious.

This has become very common as these meatheads do not understand electrics.
There are two oil pressure switches on later VWs.
A low pressure which operates as normal by completing the circuit when the oil pressure is low and a higher pressure dynamic oil pressure switch which open circuits at under pressure and sounds the alarm over 2000 rpm.
A false alarm could also be a loose connection somewhere between the oil pressure switch and the circuit on the dash.
You could also have an engine problem (wrong oil filter, engine wear etc)

To test the circuit, pull the wire from the high pressure oil switch.
Start the engine (no buzz, no light)
Rev the engine to over about 2000 rpm. The buzzer and light should operate.

I would not have an oil pressure guage due to the distance from the engine.

I installed a temperature and pressure gauge in my van and it works fine.
Phil is right that it is a long distance and there is always a niggly feeling
how accurate the instruments are. However, the numbers matched as per Bentley.
Anyhow, you can have a closer look at our Sunday meeting.
